Toledo Free Press to begin publishing 2 days a week

MIKE BELL, COMMUNITY LEADERS TO ANNOUNCE DISCOVERY
OF NEW “STAR” AT WESTFIELD FRANKLIN PARK 16 CINEMA DE LUX

A major media business expansion will be announced at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 25 at the Westfield Mall Franklin Park 16 Cinema De Lux theaters. Toledo Mayor Mike Bell, Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce President Mark V’Soske and Regional Growth Partnership President and CEO Steve Weathers will join Toledo Free Press President and Publisher Thomas F. Pounds to announce that Lucas County’s largest circulation Sunday newspaper will expand to publishing two days a week starting March 10.

The expansion will mean the addition of up to a dozen new jobs, including a Social Networking Manager who will utilize such tools as Facebook and Twitter to make Toledo Free Press and Toledo Free Press “Star” more interactive.

Toledo Free Press “Star” will be distributed to more than 700 locations, including more than 70 in Bowling Green, a new territory for Toledo Free Press. “Star” will focus on local arts and sports with a comprehensive calendar of events, written and produced by the staff that earned Toledo Free Press the “Best Weekly Newspaper in Ohio” award at the 2009 Ohio Society of Professional Journalists awards.

“Our company is now exactly five years old, and we are indescribably grateful to the region’s readers and advertisers for their role in helping us build a relevant and positive source for community news,” Pounds said. “This expansion offers a new demographic for content and advertising messages.”

Toledo Free Press is the county’s largest circulation newspaper, with more than 120,000 copies delivered each week.

Since the other paper in town becomes more and more marginal and irrelevant by the day, I'm glad I will soon have a reason to read a newspaper again, which will be twice as much paper reading as I do now.
