http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article7038550.ece

so now the Head elitist in charge wants to spend a BILLION dollars on a brand spankin' new british embassy??

Really Barry? Is that a wise move given the state of your country's economy?

Why not just give the queen another Ipod and the newest copy of Ghostbusters you can find and see if they'll lease us some space.

First off, from what I know about most government building projects they are budgeted 4 years in advance, I can't say if this is the case but that's how the military and military related entities usually do it.

Second I think the inflated building costs would be because it's very expensive to build in England let alone in London.

If either of these are the case it then the money was already there and it would have cost too much to make changes once the groundbreaking had occured, something I've dealt with many times in gov't work.

I wish the government had to budget most everything 4 years in advance. If they did that then we wouldn't have these "unexpected" budget woes.

did you ever have anything in your budget, and then some clamity happens, and it doesnt go as planned?

We're having a calamity. We've already got a british embassy. I'd love a new house, but my plans for that have been put on hold till better times... I'll make due with what Ive got.

I have had that instance. Unfortunately in the cases I've had a portion of the money was given up front. The contractor ordered the necessary materials and to end it or change it would cost the gov't more money.

I agree that we probably didn't need a NEW embassy but I am fair and I won't put the blame on the President until I know the facts. It's very likely this was put into place prior to his presidency and unless I know different I won't hold him accountable for it.

Now, IF this money was budgeted 4 years ago it was done at a time when the economy was good and the money was probably already spent before the economy tanked. So if that's the case I am not appalled at all.

It's easy to spend someone else's money. The government is REALLY good at it.

'Barry' must not have been in charge yet...

SECURITY?!?

IT'S MADE OF GLASS!!!!!!

A kid with a BB gun can take it out....

so you and your BB gun are rendered more useless than usual...

The new replacement for the Humvee doesn't have glass. It has transparent aluminum which is 4 inches thick and can stop 7.62 rounds. Very cool!

I don't know if this will be the same thing.

HA...my powermaster 760 isnt afraid of a little water...

Yeah, but it's got that moat....

Will it keep the black knight at bay?
