Strange how Bush gave over $350 million to the countries affected by the 2004 tsunami disaster and no one says a word. Obama pledges $100 million to our neighbor who is just as poor if not poorer than many of the countries hit by the tsunami and everyone wonders if we can afford it or whether he's doing to score points with 'black people' or how it should all be left to the private charities.

The U.S. government, led by President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell, added another USD 20 million on 28 December to their original pledge of USD 15 million, bringing the total up to USD 35 million, not including direct aid to be rendered by naval vessels dispatched to the region.
On 31 December the US pledge was increased tenfold to USD 350 million, with President Bush saying that that amount will probably increase. President Bush also signed a decree ordering flags to be flown at half-mast during the first week of the new year.

Those who have criticized it are few and far between.

The reason is because sending that money is the right thing to do. It's the Christian thing to do. And I wouldn't want to call myself the citizen of a country that didn't.

Is it cheaper to fight a war against terrorists coming from Haiti in the future, or give them some aid now? I would think that Haiti would be a good investment for Al Queda at this time. Setting up madrasas, and feeding the students while they are indoctrinated could lead to dividends for Al Queda in the future.

Wow - socialist/communist/fascist Europe just pledged $575 million.

Well, you see...the US policy is that these countries are on their own.. Unless they democratically elect someone we don't like. Then they are open game.
