Input Sought at Neighborhood Gatherings November 17 and 19
Toledo, Ohio – Neighborhood meetings will be held November 17 and 19 to receive input concerning sewer projects in Toledo’s Jamie Farr Park and Ayers/Monroe neighborhoods.
The Toledo Waterways Initiative will hold the Jamie Farr Park Neighborhood Meeting Tuesday November 17 at the park’s shelter house, 2140 Summit Street at Galena Street beginning at 6 p.m.
The Neighborhood Meeting for the Ayers Avenue and Monroe Street area will be held Thursday November 19 at the Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe Street beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be in Reeder Hall on the church’s lower level. Attendees are asked to use the parking lot at the rear of the church and enter through the doors covered by green awnings.
Residents and business people in the two areas are encouraged to attend and provide input for these important projects. Discussion will include preliminary work locations, project schedules and timelines as well as possible impacts on traffic.
The impacted area involved in the Jamie Farr Park project begins at the Maumee River and moves northwest to the northwest side of Summit Street from Ash Street northeast to Columbus Street.
For the Ayers/Monroe project, the involved area begins at South Cove Boulevard from Bluff Street east to Ayers Avenue and moves north to Goodale Avenue from Ayers west to Auburn Avenue, south to Monroe Street, then roughly northwest along Monroe and Bluff to South Cove.
These projects are in the early design phase and input from these meetings will help in the planning. Depending on funding, construction could get underway in the Jamie Farr Park area in late 2010 or early 2011 and for the Ayers/Monroe project by 2012 at the latest.
The Toledo Waterways Initiative project is a federally mandated program requiring the City of Toledo to reduce sewage discharges into its waterways. The multi-year project began in summer 2002 following the settlement of an 11-year lawsuit involving Toledo and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
