A statement from Sean and Carolyn Savage

On Thursday, September 24, 2009, Carolyn Savage gave birth to a healthy baby boy at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

At this time, we would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to the Morell family on the birth of their son. We wish Paul, Shannon, their twin girls and their new baby boy the best, as they move forward with their lives together.

Our family is deeply grateful for the support and prayers of so many people from around the world. We also would like to thank the medical professionals who provided superior care and treatment throughout the pregnancy and delivery.

Our family is going through a very difficult time and requests privacy in the days ahead.

This from the couple who relished the chance to get on network TV news about an embryo screw-up, held the local press at bay for a day, then granted Toledo media an opportunity for a press conference to keep the story going. I smell a ghost-written book coming up. As well as a lawsuit. Pain and suffering should be documented if a suit is to succeed. Sean and Carolyn likely will be contacting local TV news crews a year from now, when baby turns 1, to remind people about the baby that wasn't theirs. The hurt goes on. If this Sylvania couple had any class, they would have kept their mouths shut and worked it out with the clinic or in a court in the state where the clinic is located. These two are media hounds. I'm happy that baby is with his parents.

Patience is a great virtue.

This is definite malpractice and I hope they rip the idiotic doctor for a HUGE settlement. The media attention will just make it more likely that they won't even have to go to court.

Other interesting hypotheticals could have risen out of this situation - if the Savages chose to abort, is there any law or court that would have stopped her? Interesting implications - a woman does have the "right" to an abortion.

You're a jerk, plain and simple.

If it gets swept under the rug every time something like this happens, then more families may get hurt. Its important that people be aware that these things can and do happen. Its important that every clinic takes a look at this situation and re-thinks their own policies and procedures to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Keeping things a secret would do nothing to help other families make sure that they don't end up in the same situation.

I happen to be acquainted with this couple through church and Sean having coached one of my children in CYO sports. They are some of the most caring, kindest, selfless people you could ever meet. Not just because of this situation, but because of the way they conduct themselves every day.

You couldn't even come close to being as wonderful of a person as the Savages are.

If not, that is the most asinine thing I have read in a very long time. I'm glad they came out with it. I'm sure this happens quite a bit and is covered up. By this couple outing this flaw in the system they have brought light to it.
Kudos to the Savages. And God bless them for not aborting this child.

How often has this kind of thing been swept under the rug with an abortion and silence?
This is a brave family for making good on a difficult and needless mix up.
