Kaptur celebrates "Capitalism"

The "Capitalism" movie afterparty that Marcy attended as a guest of Michael Moore raised the eyebrows and even temper of some of the participants. NBC New York reports the irony of holding the afterparty in the "Esquire's swanky Soho show house"

The Wall Street Journal noted the irony of the NY premier at the Lincoln Center.

Before the film, the crowd sipped champagne and cocktails in the “Morgan Stanley Lobby” and then headed to their seats in the “Citi Balcony.” Movie tickets were available at the “Bank of New York Box Office” and there’s outdoor seating at the “Credit Suisse Information Grandstand.”

WSJ also notes the after party:

At the end of the film, Moore beckons moviegoers to join him in his struggle to reform America. But first, there was the after party at the SoHo Mews, a luxury condo building that boasts the “only private park in Soho.”

The proletarian struggle would have to wait.

The Business Insider has a screen shot of a guest who was "sickened" by the venue.

Is this brilliance, stupidity, or ignorance?

Birds of a feather, flock together.

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

Gee, an anti-capitalism movie is lauded by a Socialist. Who'dda thought that wouldda happened in a million years??

Careful...Socialist is the new N-word....

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

isn't the main thrust of it the dubious effects of under-regulated capitalism?

And weren't many, if not most, conservatives against the bailing out of financial institutions last fall, another key aspect of the movie?

Maybe, after the all braying and screeching on here, MM and conservatives have actually found some common ground.

it doesnt take a lot of trouble to find out where the liberals holy man once said "Screw the small business man - bring on the big box stores"...

but that quitely went away...

because I thought the thread was about the movie, lol

Once again, Moore's critical of the big bank/institution bailouts, and so were lots of conservatives. As least they said they were at the time.

Blah blah blah....communist walk on their feet...so do republicans...therefore there is nothing wrong with communists...

Dreg...drivel...purile vitrual vomit in text, straight from the socialist playbook....

"Capitalism is evil," says new Michael Moore film
By Mike Collett-White Mike Collett-white Sun Sep 6, 10:29 pm ET

VENICE (Reuters) – Capitalism is evil. That is the conclusion U.S. documentary maker Michael Moore comes to in his latest movie "Capitalism: A Love Story," which premieres at the Venice film festival Sunday.

Blending his trademark humor with tragic individual stories, archive footage and publicity stunts, the 55-year-old launches an all out attack on the capitalist system, arguing that it benefits the rich and condemns millions to poverty.

"Capitalism is an evil, and you cannot regulate evil," the two-hour movie concludes.

"You have to eliminate it and replace it with something that is good for all people and that something is democracy."

The bad guys in Moore's mind are big banks and hedge funds which "gambled" investors' money in complex derivatives that few, if any, really understood and which belonged in the casino.

Meanwhile, large companies have been prepared to lay off thousands of staff despite boasting record profits.

The filmmaker also sees an uncomfortably close relationship between banks, politicians and U.S. Treasury officials, meaning that regulation has been changed to favor the few on Wall Street rather than the many on Main Street.

He says that by encouraging Americans to borrow against the value of their homes, businesses created the conditions that led to the crisis, and with it homelessness and unemployment.

Moore even features priests who say capitalism is anti-Christian by failing to protect the poor.

"Essentially we have a law which says gambling is illegal but we've allowed Wall Street to do this and they've played with people's money and taken it into these crazy areas of derivatives," Moore told an audience in Venice.

"They need more than just regulation. We need to structure ourselves differently in order to create finance and money, support for jobs, businesses, etc."

GREEN SHOOTS?

Amid the gloom, Moore detects the beginnings of a popular movement against unbridled capitalism, and believes President Barack Obama's rise to power may bolster it.

"Democracy is not a spectator sport, it's a participatory event," he told a news conference. "If we don't participate in it, it ceases to be a democracy. So Obama will rise or fall based not so much on what he does but on what we do to support him."

Moore also warned other countries around the world against following the recent U.S. economic and political model.

'The bad guys in Moore's mind are big banks and hedge funds which "gambled" investors' money in complex derivatives that few, if any, really understood and which belonged in the casino.'---

True

'Meanwhile, large companies have been prepared to lay off thousands of staff despite boasting record profits'---

True.

'The filmmaker also sees an uncomfortably close relationship between banks, politicians and U.S. Treasury officials, meaning that regulation has been changed to favor the few on Wall Street rather than the many on Main Street'.---

Arguably true

'He says that by encouraging Americans to borrow against the value of their homes, businesses created the conditions that led to the crisis, and with it homelessness and unemployment.'---

While its true many Americans participated in this as a way of 'keeping up with the Jones' and living beyond their means, and for that they should also held responsible, businesses aided and abetted this thirst for more, more, more because it padded their bottom line.

"Democracy is not a spectator sport, it's a participatory event," he told a news conference. "If we don't participate in it, it ceases to be a democracy.---

Conservative and Libertarian sponsors/participants of the 'Tea Parties' should find no fault with this line of thinking.

Yeah yeah...no one can throw scripture like the devil...

You have to ignore this:

"Capitalism is an evil, and you cannot regulate evil," the two-hour movie concludes.

"You have to eliminate it and replace it with something that is good for all people and that something is democracy."

What part of Marxist Agit-prop dont you understand?

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

to agree with many of the arguments made in the movie wthout agreeing to the final conclusion about what should be done to fix the problems addressed in the same movie.

That may be beyond your grasp but it's something to consider while running around tracking down and taking aim at liberals with your air-rifle.

If you agree with the arguements of Karl Marx, that would make you a marxist.

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

"Moore's critical of the big bank/institution bailouts, and so were lots of conservatives. As least they said they were at the time."

Not everyone McCaskey. Remember when Ms Kaptur became a YouTube hit by denouncing the Wall St bailout? Mr Myers' take on it was that Kaptur "hated the banks". You see, bailouts are wrong--unless Democrats think they're wrong. Then bailouts are ok.

Pink Slip

thanks for the reminder, Pinky...

I remember being for the gov't buying out the "toxic assets" as then Candidate Obama said. It didn't happen.

I was against the bailing out of any of the companies. It did happen.

Is Capitalism the enemy? No. Even Michael Moore makes millions off his movies. He's a Socalist in words but his bank account says he's a Capitalist.

We need to take back the bailouts and make gov't the check on business instead of the partner. We've already seen the gov't play favorites with companies and when that line blurs we move farther from Capitalism.

MikeyA

"We've already seen the gov't play favorites with companies and when that line blurs we move farther from Capitalism"

I am guessing that this sentiment is included in Moore's film.

One thing I've noticed is this---many on the "left" and "right" can agree that the relationship between government and corporations is waay too cozy. Those on the "left" would argue that corporate influence has allowed them to "buy" our gov't. While those on the "right" feel that our government has bullied corporations to the point of controlling them, and thus the private sector. It seems many would agree on the end result--the incestuous gov't/corp relationship, but argue about how it's happening (and what to do about it).

Pink Slip

view of many conservatives to focus on the inane and the irrelevant---is Michael Moore a Socialist, a Commie, or some bastardized combination of both?

Who really cares? If he concludes, after the examples in his film of how the system went wrong over the last year or two, that Capitalism is to blame, he's free to make that conclusion, but that doesn't mean every Tom, dick (Z) and Harry have to reach the same deduction.

Practically everyone agrees there's a 'problem.' As Pink points out, the corporation-lobbyist-government cabal is indeed incestuous, involves both main political parties, and the root of much of what's wrong. I personally find the military-industrial complex to be right there as well.

Pondering Moore's political motives and making that the focus of everything he does is a fools' errand, like worrying now about long-ago Communist boogeymen hiding in dark corners and under covers waiting to pounce on the unsuspected.

McCaskey,

Don't you know the standards Liberals have to live by?

Al Gore can't talk about Global Warming because he has a big house and jet.

John Edwards can't talk about the poor because he is rich.

Michael Moore can't talk about health care or capitalism because he is fat and makes money.

Those are the standards that Liberals have to live by according to Conservatives.

Of course this is all getting pointed out by the likes of thrice divorced drug addict Rush Limbaugh; you know the guy caught with an illegal bottle of Viagra on a “guys” weekend to an island noted for under age prostitutes…

It’s kind of funny really that guys like Limbaugh and Gingrich each devoice 3 times and with 5 marriages between them can talk about things like gay marriage destroying traditional families and the right just bobs their head in unison… no hypocrisy there I tell you, move along, nothing to see.

yup

on all counts

Al gore STILL lives in his energy gobbling house...and democrats love him...

John edwards fathered a child with a mistress while his wife had cancer...and democrats love him...

Micheal Moore the Millionaire Marxist,

who trashes America in Fahrenheit 9/11( which Democratic mayor of New York City Ed Koch,Called propaganda).

praises Castro's Cuba, in Sicko,

and wants you to be a useful prole now against capitalism...and democrats love him

So tell me just where do you guys and Moore part ways?

Anywhere?

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

I eat much healthier.

Wow, you must have seen all of Moore's movies. You're quite the expert. You must have wasted your valuable dollars on the Marxist Moviemaker. Where does that leave you?

Didnt have to waste a dime..his stuff is all over the net...

And knowing the subject matter leaves me informed...

What's that leave you?...oh...uninformed and ignorant of the subject matter....

Yet you claim to be an expert...scoffing left and right...

The millionaire marxist spoon feeds you marxist propganda...you get wound up and pointed at the 1% through class envy, and greed...you are truly the person Marx talked about needing to achive a collectivist transistion...a useful idiot.

It isnt fair...you want your cut...you want some cash...and it's all the fault of greedy capitalists that you cant have it....cuz someone told you so...

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

you and your popgun, lol.

I'm just glad you didn't mention Mom this time for sympathy votes.

Sympathy?

For the devil?

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

lol

good tune.

'Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name...'

But what's confusin you, is the nature, of my game....
