Can We Believe Anything Moody Is Saying?

Just recently Jim Moody stated what vehicles he had in his household. He failed to reveal that his wife has a 1980 Mercedes Benz . He only talked about the American made vehicles he and his wife own. He claims he thought the questions was how many vehiches he personally owns. I guess Mr. Moody doesn't understand the rules about community property. If his wife owns the vehicle, he owns it also. It is my belief that Mr. Moody is an extremely intelligent man, and therefore, I do not believe he misunderstood the question. Intelligent people like Mr. Moody do not make such mistakes, unless of course, they are trying not to reveal something. If Jim Moody was deceptive about such a trivial issue such as this, what can we believe. Lets ask ourselves, was he lying now, has he been lying in the past, and what other things he will say in the future that will be untruthful? One by one each of the candidates is self destructing. Konop wants everybody over forty to stay out of way and go to rest homes. Collins bores everyone to death and appears to want to turn Toledo a police State. Bell apprears to want to send our taxes through the roof so his buddies the Toledo party people can continue to pay for their toys. Wilkowski has been very consistent and stable with his do-able platform. Covey is a sweet-heart. I wish she were competetent at something so we could give her serious consideration. My pick for a Mayoral show-down in November: Wilkowski vs Covey.

why it matters what car anyone drives? Doesn't Carty drive a Jeep, did this make any difference in the grand scheme? Did that change the outcome of the auto industry in Toledo? Did it change the outcome for any of us in Toledo that now need to find someway clean up this mess?
I don't care if the next mayor drives a pink Caddie with gold knobs on the radio as long as they pay for it with their own money...and not mine...and they are willing to work with the people of Toledo to turn this town around.
Of all the questions to ask a potential candidate, what kind of cars do you own? It just seems there are more important questions to ask.
Maybe I missed something and someone, I am sure, will be sure to set me straight.

Why it matters what car anyone drives? Toledo is a manufacturing town, historically it derives its tax base from these middle class employers. When your elected or those running are not supporting the tax base and those employed in it, it shows stupidity on how the city actually runs. What our federal politicians passed as trade agreements has hurt Toledo. We cannot control those that take campaign contributions from wealthy wall street interests but we can control the local scene. Its a start we have to start somewhere. As I've said before when you support the non union auto maker you support lower wages, lower benefits, and a lower standard-of-living for all working Americans this includes the white collar worker.

Statements made are the opinion of the writer who is exercising his first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and are generally permitted.

But I DO support a lower standard of living, Wolfie. We spend too much money on our lifestyles. Our lifestyles are too energy-intensive and now REQUIRE debts to sustain. Debts are a TRIPLE hit as expenditures, since you not only pay the principal, but also the interest ... AND since debt has become so prevalent, it drives up prices, so the principal is inflated to begin with.

We live too lavishly. We transformed our homes since 1980. We doubled them in average size, and then relied on furnaces and air conditioners to heat and cool ALL THAT SQUARE FOOTAGE.

Our cars have done nothing but GROW in size, which takes more gasoline to move around.

We've taxed ourselves, the working class, TO DEATH. The 3/4% income tax hit started in 1980, right after the 1979 municipal strike. The working man of Toledo now has at least 40% of his income stolen each year to support all levels of government. Why does our government require about half of our incomes to merely adhere to constitutional minimums?

aimee,
You're off track. One consistent theme I read on this blog and other sites is the need for openness and honesty by those running for political office; the need for full disclosure. Chris writes about this all the time, and it's one of the few areas where he and I agree. This is proof positive that choosing to vote for a mayoral candidate because she or he is NOT a (horror of horrors) "career politician", does nothing to guarantee she or he won't act like a politician upon entering a political race.

Worried what kind of classic car someone only drives
on nice days and is stored in garage during the winter.
Why don't you go back and worry about downtown parking,
and what day your garbage will be picked up next week.
Its no wonder Toledo is in the shape it is with idiots like this living there.

Dale, believe me no one is more desirous (is that a word) of transparency, but my rant was not about how anyone answered the question, it was about with everything that we have to worry about in this town, and what we need out of a prospective mayor, should the car they drive be our priority question?

And Wolfie (if I may be so bold), I understand your point, And thanks for answering rationally and not adversarily. Most of my family and many friends in the past and a few currently have been tied to the auto industry Prestolite, Champion, Jeep, Hydromatic, Ford, not to mention the car dealerships. But IMHO, I believe we do have to start from scratch and the reason I vote for someone is not going to be because of the car they drive. It is going to be because after careful and thoughtful consideration I believe that they possess the qualifications I believe can make a difference. I know we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, Wolf, but I do understand your point.

Joe, you've been on a smear campaign for moody since the start - how can anyone take anything you say seriously?

So his wife owns a 30 yr old benz? Ya think any "diamler" workers bought benz's when they could?

It is my belief that Mr. Moody is an extremely intelligent man, and therefore, I do not believe he misunderstood the question. Intelligent people like Mr. Moody do not make such mistakes,

go look up the work speculation in the dictionary Joe. Your silliness is actually driving me TOWARD looking at the man. Everything you post against him is flat out petty, so if that's all you have, that tells me there's not many glaring issues against him.

Honestly - what kind of cars the man owns? Who cares? My God man - talk about what the man's platform is and stop bothering about the trivia. What's next? You gonna stalk is wife to the grocery and tell us what kind of TP he wipes his glotz with?

Aimee and Billy,
I think I get it now. Once you have made up your minds to vote for somebody, whether they are honest or not doesn't really matter. But, of course, you do reserve the right to point out when another candidate does not fully disclose, or outright lies, because you have already pre-judged that person as unfit to receive your support. Really! Now I do get it!

But, of course, you do reserve the right to point out when another candidate does not fully disclose, or outright lies, because you have already pre-judged that person as unfit to receive your support

And I assume you can prove your point?

I've read from others that they would not vote for Ben because he "lied" about serving his full term as a county commissioner when he ran for it. Are you NOT going to criticize him for, what he would say, is merely changing his mind for what he believes is the greater good for Toledo?

Dale, you don't know anything about me or what i said. As I already pointed out in my last post in this thread, my rant was about the question being asked in the first place, not about the answer. Instead of making assumptions about you, I will take responsibility that somehow I am not being clear enough about the intention of my post in this thread.
Again, Wolf, I thank you for the dialogue.

Personally I don't care what kind of cars Mr. Moody owns. My blog is about lack of honesty. He could have refused to answer the question and that would have been okay with me, but he didn't. I believe he purposely answered the question in a way to appease the questioner and in doing so he soiled his image. If he'll mislead us voters about something as trivial as this, what will he do when it comes to something not so trivial. In addiion, I haven't smeared Mr. Moody at all. He has done this to himself. I'm just sharing my opinion with other very intelligent people.

, I haven't smeared Mr. Moody at all.

You havent? Even when you accused him of 'breaking the rules' as far as residency eligibility to run, but then when questioned, you refused to site which rules were broken?

He doesn't live in Toledo. You must live in Toledo to run for mayor. He's breaking this rule.

When I watched the debate I determined that all the candidates skirted around some issues. The fact is, Moody and Konop are the candidates who have been caught in out-right lies. Bell hasn't been caught in any lies because he hasn't said anything that has any substance and he has no platform. Collins may have lied. People who have experience working with him have said he lied about some of the work he did in the police department. I haven't heard if Wilkowski and Covey have lied about anything.
