Kaptur is Pro Life?

Did the Plain Dealer print an incorrect statement or is Marcy Kaptur pro-life? I thought I read some place Kaptur is pro-choice.

Toledo Democrat Marcy Kaptur, who also opposes abortion, doesn't think the bill will lead to taxpayer-funded abortions because of the Hyde Amendment, language attached each year to a funding bill for the Department of Health and Human Services which blocks government funding of abortions.

Kaptur has always been staunchly anti-choice. She recently signed on with other anti-choicers to block any healthcare bill that would include federal money that would be used to pay for abortions.

You don't have to like Marcy Kaptur, but Marcy is one of the most consistent people in public office. She is consistently pro-organized labor, and consistently pro-life. Some people just don't fit conveniently and neatly into a "liberal" or "conservative" package. Marcy consistently fought the one-sided trade agreements fostered by Presidents who were Republican or Democratic alike. She was so strongly opposed to both Bush #41 and Bill Clinton on trade policy, that Ross Perot wanted Marcy to run with him as his Vice Presidential candidate!

Marcy is NOT the type of politician who "puts a finger to the [political] wind" to see which way it is blowing. Marcy votes her own conscience! Whether posters here like it or not, Marcy wins because she reflects the views of the majority of her constituents, and runs an efficient office that gives excellent service to those in her district. BTW conservatives, Marcy has voted against many of the pay raises Congress has voted itself over the years, and has donated many of her pay raises to various charities. Now, that's a truly old-fashioned conservative value!
