Gallery at Madhouse presents "Produce Produce"; fresh paintings from the studio of Steve Mockensturm. An opening reception featuring light snacks and refreshments will be held Thursday evening, July 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The show will remain on view through August 21.
At 16 years of age, Steve entered the world of employment as a young clerk in a farmers' market. For the next three years fruits and vegetables were his life. Watermelon slicing, onion peeling, cherry stacking — essential life skills — were ingrained as the young man worked hard to make produce look as attractive and appealing as possible.
Years later, Mr. Mockensturm takes up brush and pallette and returns to the flesh and rind of natures bounty with a new series of delicious paintings. Constructing a colorful, still life from the harvest, "Produce Produce" reveals the fruity goodness, sensuous nature and timeless beauty of all seed-bearing structures.
