"Crane Creek"

Hey all,
Today was one of those rare days when my work did not have me all tied up. I had to visit an account in Lorain and was able to head back to Curtice by early afternoon. I took Rt2 home and decided to stop in and check on what used to be "Crane Creek State Park".
As no doubt many of you are aware "Crane Creek" no longer exists. It was the victim of budget cuts and has now been relegated to the "Magee Marsh Wildlife Refuge".
While I was saddened at the loss of a place that my family utilized for many an outing I was not prepared to see what I saw.
A once vibrant beach is now a trash heap. A few people were attempting to swim there, but, I had to question their judgement...I also have to question the judgement of the "Division of Wildlife"'s judgement/care...
There were numerous tires, plastic trash, wooden pallets, etc on the beach (Some of which was half buried in the sand.). The roadways are falling into disrepair. The boardwalks that used to be there were not in evidence even though there were signs admonishing you to stay on the boardwalk.
If this is a "wild life area" it certainly left me scratching my head...It is a poor example of an area that is supposed to be gently returned to the wild.
Before any of you admonish me for being some kind of liberal "tree-hugger", I must inform you that I am Libertarian. I also have a great appreciation for nature, These two things do go hand in hand. But when some thing like a major change happens to an area such as "Crane Creek" it needs to transition responsibly...This does not appear to be the case as the current Government looks like it has washed it's hands of responsibility to you and to the critters that reside here.
But, then again, what is new there?

Sad

Very saddened by this report. I have many fond memories of this state park.

thanks for this sad update

Damn shame, that area was always a treasure of nature.

Then you drive a bit farther along the Erie shore and it nearly gets to the point where you can't see the lake past all of the condos.
