Toledo, OH – It was reported by WTOL news that 15-year-old Dailahntae Jemison confessed that he punched Dr. Robert Brundage, then knocked him off his bike, and rode away. Dr. Brundage is listed in critical condition at St. V's.
Ward asserts, “This was a cowardly and disgraceful act committed. My prayers are with Dr. Brundage and his family during this time. I hope Dr. Brundage recovers soon. He has done so much for the betterment of the community. He has served on such boards as the Toledo Central City Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation, Community Shares of Northwest Ohio, Greater Toledo Housing Coalition and the list goes on and on. He is truly a champion for social and economic justice for all people. He is a quiet and peaceful man, who I had the pleasure to meet and esteem highly. For anyone to want to hurt this man is simply opprobrious.”

kid that did this needs to spend a lot of time behind bars. You have to be pretty sick to do this.
IMHO the worst crimes are those against children and the elderly.
I hope when they put the scumbag in jail they let everyone know what kind of piece of garbage he is.
"We're all riding on the Hindenburg, no sense fighting over the window seats"-Richard Jenni
that the 15 year old didn't get a bloody nose or Mr. Ward will come to his defense and accuse the Police of Brutality.
opprobrious?
Why not just say disgraceful?
On the other hand, a lot of people listening and reading learned a new word.
I hear Stephen Ward has scheduled a press conference to point out to everyone that it's not the heat, its the humidity...
Actually, I think he said, "It's not the incalescence; it's the vaporization."
bullies are attacking the messenger (Ward) but I would like to know why? Must have had an important meeting last night. "wink" "wink"
These are NOT attacks. We are JOKING...poking fun at the fact that a candidate has said something obvious. Who wouldn't condemn attacks on the elderly?
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the use of ATTACK as a verb means to 1. to set upon in a forceful, violent, hostile, or aggressive way, with or without a weapon; begin a fight.
2. to begin hostilities against; start an offensive against: to attack the enemy.
3. to blame or abuse violently or bitterly.
4. to direct unfavorable criticism against; criticize severely; argue with strongly:
5. to try to destroy, esp. with verbal abuse: to attack a reputation.
6. to set about (a task) or go to work on (a thing) vigorously: to attack housecleaning.
______________
Also from the American Heritage Dictionary:
JOKE: Something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement, as a witticism, a short and amusing anecdote, or a prankish act.
2. something that is amusing or ridiculous
3. a matter that need not be taken very seriously; trifling matter.
4. something that does not present the expected challenge; something very easy: The test was a joke.
To quote from one of the greatest films of all time: 'lighten up, Francis!"
Ward's Press Conference on Jacko's death. Point being it seems like Ward is using any and everything for getting his face on TV. Even when the obvious is stated, he needs that press time. Playing right out of Obama's handbook...“Never let a serious crisis go to waste …”
The more press conferences he gives the more desperate he looks to garner support for his run at council. Especially when he is addressing the obvious, repeating mantra already stated a few dozen times or jumping to conclusions before evidence is rendered.
She either knows we're joking and is just being a b*tch about it, or she's flat out ignorant and wont get it anyway.
either way, who really cares, it's just purehate bein' purehate.
Attack- To direct unfavorable criticism against.
Joke-Something said or done to provoke laughter.
Ignorant-unlearned
You are directing unfavorable criticism against Mr. Ward's use of the word "opprobious," which you then carry to the extreme. If what you wrote was a joke to provoke laughter, my question is why provoke laughter because Mr. Ward used a word of which only Mz. Wheales would know the meaning?
And Silly Billy, I am not unlearned. You are just silly. :=)
As I said before, who really cares?
You've proven time and again your ignorance AND your ability to be an ol' bag. Not only 'unlearned', but laughable in your pomposity.
Maybe you just don't have a sense of humor?

How can you really have time to point out negativity. Here are the facts
An elderly well respected community supporter and contributor was attacked for no reason, all over a bike.
A disrespectful, unruly, sick youth did something this low to an adult, YES HE SHOULD BE PUNSIHED…I am no judge or saint so, I can’t say what his punishment should be,
Nevertheless, It's very disturbing and immature to blog, and criticize anyone about grammar, or the fact that Mr. Ward is holding Press Conferences etc. When you have this man in critical state, laying in the hospital, possibly his death bed.
The focus should be on brining justice and making sure that we are there as a community to support and wish the VICTUM well.
This goes to show how petty we are, Let's stop trying to point the finger and finding problems all the time. Ask your self how can you help find a solution or help the victim. That's would REAL concerned citizens would do. I haven’t heard any mention how they can help offer support to the victim or anything to that nature.
STOP trying to bring those who are making a real difference in the community,. The most I have seen you guys do is blog negative comments and blogs about Purnhurt & Mr. Ward. Stop with all the foolishness.
I don't hear your name publicly and or behind the scenes about you making some type of contribution in a positive way in this community. So as long as anyone is TRYING to make a difference in this community, I will support them and you should to.
Either you are apart of the PROBLEM or your apart of the SOLUTION, you can be in between, you should be congratulating Mr. Ward for his work, where you agree on why he may be doing it or not, At least he's not apart of the problems that are going on in this community.
What are some ways you can help make a positive contribution in this community? Besides blogging or talking down or against someone?....For god sakes, This is what people my age do, I wouldn't expect this type of activity from Adults who claim they have teenagers....SMH

Who is attacking who?
I was not finding fault with Ward for using the word. I found it curious that he used the term. I didn''t call him ignorant, label him as "learned or unlearned," silly, or levy any charge against him. I said, "Why didn't he just say disgraceful?" That wasn't a joke; just an observation--that is a curious word for ANYONE to use because the audience isn't necessarily familiar with it. If your audience needs a translator, then you don't necessarily communicate well with them. I didn't say he was a jerk, or a louse, and I didn't say he wasn't worthy of public office. I wasn't criticizing! In fact, if my own mother used the word, I'd ask the same question.
The opportunity for a joke--which I rarely pass up in real and virtual worlds--came when someone joked about Ward holding a press conference to report the weather. I ran with it, using vocabulary not usually used in this situation....I think it was funny; you do not understand that level of humor, which pretty much saturates our culture.
In a recent post, after I thought I complimented you on the impact you have had on young people's lives and you took what I said and twisted it, I said I was going to be a lot more careful about what I said to you. I'm taking that a notch higher--I'm going to stop wasting time addressing your criticisms of me, my posts, etc...
It really seems that you scan these stories and posts for opportunities to nitpick, as if you've assigned yourself some sort of police role or super-heroine role here on SB, standing up for all the injustices you see in the posts.
I'm sure you have plenty to say of value that you could contribute to this forum that would enlighten others. Instead of offering discussion to the " metaphorical neighborhood", you bring discord. You once pegged me as the snooty woman judging my neighbors for the length of their grass....look in the mirror.
Who is attacking who?
I believe that you meant to write 'whom'; Who is attacking whom?
Your troll alert system is failing you, and as the unofficial troll police I respectfully request that you upgrade to version 5.03, which fixes several important security flaws in previous versions.
Helen, please reserve your energy for writing your normal, meaningful contributions. I enjoy reading your work, as do other users with good taste, and I mean that very sincerely.
It may help you to remember that Purnhrt, AKA Twyla Page, is full of hate. She hates the world for what it has done to her, and her hatred manifests itself with inflammatory, snarky posts designed to provoke argument. I hope that Twyla can find peace, but I kind of don't think she will. Ignore her ranting and she'll eventually fixate on something else.
Mad Jack
Mad Jack's Shack
Madjack,
Your advice is taken, appreciated, and will be followed.
Well, except for the grammar advice.
"Who is attacking who?" is correct in this instance.
Here's why:
If were discussing a troll attacking YOU, I might ask Who is attacking Whom?, because the answer to that question is "Purnhrt is attacking HIM."
WHOM is the acceptable "stand-in" for the pronouns HIM, HER, THEM.
Since the answer to my rhetorical question is
SHE is attacking ME, or, since I am accusing the person I am addressing, I am saying, "YOU are attacking ME," which makes WHO the correct word, because it is the substitute for the pronoun ME.
The relative pronoun "whom" is the direct object of the verb attacking. Therefore, the most correct form is whom. It doesn't matter what the "whom" refers to, whether it's him, her, them, or me. It's the object case that determines whether it's who or whom. In this case, it's the object of a verb and therefore whom. Who is used as the subject of a verb.
But who is not entirely wrong either because "whom" is almost dead in English, except in fossilized phrases like this one. That's why few people know how to use it correctly.
Pete has returned! I was just wondering where you have been...
__________
I stand corrected--Though I do have a "modern" grammar text that explained the word choice as I did (Grammar, Plain and Simple), a quick Internet search and a flip through The Elephants of Style and Woe is I, proves Pete's "object lesson" correct.
I'm guessing that my simplfied grammar, which is intended to strip rules and grammar terms from the discussion, may be the author's way of explaining the "fossilized" word, without resorting to a discussion of "objects."
Pete's wisdom in this area reminds me of Kurt Vonnegut when students asked him how to be better writers.
Vonnegut's answer: "Stop using semicolons."
MikeyA
Never, ever use semicolons; or only once in a great while. :-)
Of course people feel a need to impress and thus use them a lot... of course they always use them wrong.
MikeyA
It was meant to be a joke, Mikey.
a joke that someone didnt get, about a joke that someone didnt get, in a thread within a thread...
I saw your semicolon. But I still agree that you shouldn't use them.
My Marines get pis sed and call me the grammar nazi in the office because I red-ink their work when it's wrong. I always tell them if it's for office use and won't be seen by outside entities write the way you feel.
However if it's leaving the office it will look professional. Good communication and writing skills are the only way people will take you serious in a professional environment.

the bottom line is candidate Ward made an announcement and used a word of which only a few people were supposed to know the meaning. Then posters began to make a "joke" of Mr. Ward's campaign strategy.
In the midst of the "conversation," who jumps into the fray or attack? Why "ol bag," Purehate! How dare she voice an opinion!
Well, Ms. Wheales I do not think like you and never will. I was raised, nurtured, schooled under a whole different set of circumstances than you were, therefore I see things in a whole different light.
I do not scan stories to nitpick, I am a member of the Swamp Bubbles community and will voice my opinion when and if I see fit. Just like the on off button on the TV, you do not have to read or respond to my posts, but the posters on here are not going to dictate to me what I respond to or what I post. Calling me names is not going to stop me from voicing my opinion, being drowned out by mad and silly people is not going to stop me from posting. My advice is don't read my posts if you don't like what I have said in the past. As Patrick Henry said, "I have but one lamp to guide my feet and that is the lamp of experience," So if experience tells you that I am an ignorant nitpicker, don't read my posts,
Going back to the neighborhood post and the analogy that I set forth; is my opinion, of which I am entitled.
You all have a great Sunday and enjoy this day.
"She hates the world for what it has done to her, and her hatred manifests itself with inflammatory, snarky posts designed to provoke argument"
What has the world done to her?
Or are you just summarizing her posts?

Maybe you don't have a sense of humor. Ever consider that?
MikeyA
I think you are right, Mikey. Someone once said that being able to take a joke, rather than make jokes, is evidence that you have a sense of humor. I've also heard it defined as the ability to laugh at yourself....I wonder how Ward would feel about this. Would he take these comments as a personal attack, or would he be able to laugh at himself?
----"A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done”

HL Mencken
