On Friday of last week WSPD broke the story of Sue Frederick the acting dir. of Streets, Bridges, and Harbors writing parking tickets for people whose cars are parked on gravel near thier homes. Since then the tv stations have picked up the story and the TPPA has suggested they may file suit to stop the process as Ms. Frederick is not authorized to issue tickets.
Today WSPD and the tv stations caught up with the mayor and when pressed about the legality of Ms. Fredericks's actions the mayor went into his usual song and dance. When he tired of that he simply ignored any following questions about the matter.
Mike Collins gathered tickets from a number of homeowners on Holland-Sylvania who have parked on gravel next to their homes for years, and will try to have them thrown out.
Dan Wagner has cited the TMC for his belief that no city employees other than those specifically given the powers by the Code can issue tickets.
We'll be following the story of course, along with the fact that Larry Dillin still hasn't given the city a check despite telling a Blade reporter it would be in the city's hands last week.
Mayor Again Ducks Questions

You are aware that Department Heads (as well as the mayor) have been given permission to carry guns, while performing their assigned duties (although not all do).
The mayor is also known to wear Kevlar under his regular clothes, although I don't think that he does so on a daily basis.
You can learn a lot, listening to cops when they are "talking shop..."

He orders em special from a place that makes em look like gay-ass sweaters.
Next he will be ticketing people parked in front of churches on Sunday.
Who's smellin' another Drudge Report headline???
"Toledo Ohio fines people for having gravel driveways"!!!

Man, this is alllllllll over the internet. I mean everyplace. Many small blogs, even. Never saw it quite so bad, other than the riots.

'I used to have compassion, but they taxed it and legislated it out of existence.'
I'm glad you're picking up this story. This is just another abuse of authority by Toledo's very own Mayor Screwball.

Where were you when the Ford administration did this same thing? I did not hear reaction you then or is it just a TBT thing? You can not just blame Carty for this as it has been done in previous administrations.
Remember your slogan: Fair and Balanced
I'm not envious first of all y r u n v s. And my slogan is not fair and balanced, that's FOX news. My slogan is get the freakin' government off my back. Your memory of events is clearer than mine if the Ford administration did this, and I would point out I did not have a show of my own during that administration. And yes Carty can be blamed for this as he is the mayor just as Jack could be blamed when he was mayor. But as always thanks for the input.
Here's to the crazy ones, the rebels, the troublemakers, the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
If the mayor thinks it's o.k. for Sue Frederick to issue tickets, then isn't she Finkbeiner's "Von Ribbentrop"?

Parking Tickets != The Holocaust
There's a city full of walls you can post complaints at
Obviously you haven't watched the video that was linked. The title alone should have been your first clue that the context was Sue Frederick = "Errand Boy", not parking tickets=the Holocaust.
Although I do believe that underming and subverting the U.S. Constitution (Judge Napolitano on Fox Toledo) *could* ultimately lead to some form of a holocaust if nobody does anything.
So if the employees of streets divison have all of the extra time to investigate and issue parking ciations....why not bring the cops back and lay off the streets people?
So many streets in this city are crap and the department head has time to go around harassing citizen's parked in their own driveways?
I like That Guy's suggestion, if SB&H are that slow lay them off and bring back the cops.
Even so.. they can shove their gravel drive tickets up their backsides.
I have a gravel drive. It was there when I bought this house in 1994. The house was built in the 1960's so its safe to figure that the gravel drive has been there since then.
Suddenly its a problem?
If they ticket me I won't be paying the fine.
I personally think that we can not MAKE or BREAK the laws, I support what Sue Freidrick is doing. She is up holding the laws and is doing her job. she works co in hand with the Division Code Enforcement and the Department of Neighborhoods.
Although I do believe we have bigger fish to fry and other things we can be doing. Nevertheless, she isn't in the wrong for issuing tickets.
I don't think any other department in the City should go against the Mayor's Office and the City of Toledo have implemented.
If WE the people, and YOU the watch dogs, citizens, and bloggers don't like what the laws are or city Enforcement Codes are TAKE IT TO CITY COUNCIL
I can't give you bonus points, but I'll be glad to buy you a beer next time I'm in FL.

Yet another example which shows that Toledo's woes can be solved with LESS government, LESS laws, and MORE individual liberty. You know ... like how we are SUPPOSED to be, under the Republic.
Ironic how the poster out here with the worst grammar is the only one who agrees with Carty... Just sayin'...
Didja hear that 'ol Sue has had her run ins with the law before? I think it was in 2005 she got in an arguement with someone about where they'd parked their car, and it escalated to the point where the cops were called.
And even though she was involved with code enforcement SHE was the one hauled away? Im not 100% sure, but I think the citations were disorderly conduct and I know she also got a resisting arrest tacked on to it too.
Sounds like a match made in heaven for Carty, seeing as how his wife now doesnt abide in Toledo any more!
