Teamwork Toledo Member to Seek City Council Appointment

Teamwork Toledo member Kevin Milliken will seek the unexpired term being vacated by Toledo City Council President Mark Sobczak, who tendered his resignation earlier today.
“There has never been a more appropriate time for an independent voice to assist Toledo City Council in its efforts to reduce the current deficit, balance the budget, and restore our public safety forces to full capacity,” Milliken said.

“I would bring a fresh perspective, fresh ideas, and a fresh approach to the current fiscal crisis facing our city government. Additionally, there would be little learning curve to such an appointment, as I have the knowledge and background as to how city council operates.”

The remaining members of Teamwork Toledo have endorsed enthusiastically their colleague’s interest in seeking the open seat. Milliken will forward his name for consideration in the coming days. Toledo City Council members will make the ultimate decision in the next few weeks as to who will fill the remaining six months of Mr. Sobczak’s term.

“Mark Sobczak is an honorable man who clearly loves his city and who obviously gave careful consideration what had to have been a tough decision,” Milliken said. “Mr. Sobczak has been a distinguished elected official and labor leader who has devoted countless hours in service to his city. I wish him well.”

Milliken covered city government extensively over the past 13 years as a television, radio and newspaper journalist. He also served for more than three years as the spokesman and public relations liaison for the Board of Lucas County Commissioners and multiple county agencies under the board’s direction and supervision.

Teamwork Toledo consists of six first-time candidates: 30 and 40-something professionals and small business owners, like-minded individuals who want to reclaim city government on behalf of its citizens. Teamwork Toledo is a group of fiscal conservatives with a social conscience.

Teamwork Toledo stands for three basic principles: no new taxes, back-to-basics government, and a business-friendly community. Teamwork Toledo seeks to restore a common-sense approach to city government. The six independent candidates who comprise Teamwork Toledo are John Adams, Jr., Ty Daniels, Tricia Lyons, Kevin Milliken, David Washington, and Michael Watson.
