I think we should pool our money and sue the mayor. It seems like everyone else is. Anyone interested? I think it is official the wheels have come off the car.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner is being sued by his neighbors. They're blaming him for a delay in fixing their roads.

The Blade:
A request for a temporary restraining order filed by residents living in Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner’s neighborhood was withdrawn Tuesday after a meeting between attorneys before Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles Doneghy.

Talk about a no-win situation. I'll bet if the road HAD been repaved everyone ELSE would be bitching that he only had it done because it's his neighborhood.

I'm no carty fan but I have to agree with you JM.

Right--one of the women interviewed said something about them suing because the mayor was ignoring their street problems so that it didn't appear that he was seeking special favors.
I don't think it is so easy to just ask the city to add curbs to your non-curbed streets--it is quite an undertaking. Wouldn't all of us on uncurbed streets demand that the city add the curbs and sidewalks? I remember my dad explaining this when the street I grew up on was curbed in the early 1970s--we were all assessed in our property tax bill for the work, for the sewer work, sidewalks and for the driveway aprons.
what other residential paving projects have been scuttled by the mayor? Is there a site which may list this information?
While Carty may have done this for political reasons, I do believe that the road in question is no worse and in some cases far better then some of the other roads in Toledo's less affluent neighborhoods. Daleford between S. Detroit and Byrne Rd. comes to mind. Could this be a case where "Power Players" used the excuse that they pay higher property taxes to justify preferential treatment in pushing the approval of funds set aside for road improvement projects on their streets in the first place?
While Carty's actions here may be unpopular with the residents of Townley Road I am sure the residents of Broadway or South Street may not feel the same way.
And while I am also no Carty Fan, it seems that in the midst of this Budget crisis, his rethinking of priorities here may be justified. Can the funds set aside be used for other things like rehiring police officers?
those fancy schmancy street lights and flower pots along Reynolds sure look purdy dont they?
I mean, if we could afford to have someone pull all the weeds out of em, I mean...
Then maybe, GARY, you shouldnt've worked so hard to get him elected!!
Any conscience issues on that deal, there Gar Bear?
