Tricia Lyons Council Member At-Large Announcement

2009-05-11 10:30 am

WHO: Tricia Lyons

WHAT: Council Member At-Large Announcement

WHEN: Monday May 11, 2009
10:30 a.m.

WHERE: One Government Center

WHY: To Announce Independent Candidacy for
Toledo City Council

Tricia Lyons will declare her intent to run for an at-large seat on Toledo City Council outside the Lucas County Board of Elections offices on Monday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m.
She will run as an independent. Immediately following her announcement, Tricia will take out petitions and obtain the other necessary paperwork for her candidacy.

Tricia Lyons organized last month’s Toledo Tax Day Tea Party that drew more than 1,200 supporters who feel the same way she does—that government at all levels taxes ordinary citizens too much.

A self-described fiscal conservative, Tricia is a single mom who’s worried about the future of Toledo city government—and is taking steps to help brighten the future of our community as a first-time candidate.

Tricia is running out of concern that her son will be like many other young people, fleeing Toledo because of a lack of opportunity. Tricia is concerned that the city’s families and businesses are being overtaxed and overregulated.

Tricia also is a businesswoman. She is a sales representative for a Tier One auto parts supplier, and like most Toledoans, has been impacted by the downturn in the local economy.

Tricia believes city government should not be trying to charge its residents a higher monthly trash fee and increase taxes for Toledoans who work outside the city in order to balance the budget. If elected, Tricia will work toward a back-to-basics city government and offer common-sense solutions as a member of Toledo City Council. She also will work to restore Toledo as a business-friendly community.

I've been lucky enough to meet Tricia this last month.. I believe she MAY have forgiven me for oversleeping after working nights, and missing her Tea Party.

Even with my limited "knowledge" of Tricia, I feel safe saying she'll be an EXCELLENT choice for Toledo City Council.

Having been raised by a single Mom, myself-- there's one thing I can tell you about them. They're strong, passionate, and can manage finances better than..... I was going to say, "A Wall Street Banker.." But that's no longer a compliment.

I know they care about what's important-- and work tirelessly...

I've lived in Toledo now for 22 years.. I've seen a dramatic irony, in the complaints about Toledo, followed by the election of the SAME people, cycle after cycle. You know, the joke about insanity, "is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result the NEXT time." It just seems so appropriate here.

IF we want a NEW government, that actually responds to the people who VOTED for them-- we MUST vote for PEOPLE, not politicians..

Please join me in supporting Tricia Lyons-- for Toledo City Council.

GO TRICIA!!
