The mayor today used the suicide of a man he referred to as a "very good friend" to prove his point that fewer police don't contribute to crime. He actually said that we won't hear this man's mother complain that there were no Toledo Police patrolling the park where her son decided to kill himself. The mayor of course didn't mention the fact that that the man shot himself in Side Cut MetroPark which is in Maumee and wouldn't have Toledo police patrolling anyway.
It is absolutely disgusting that they mayor would use this death to try to prove a point. I can't begin to imagine what the mother will feel like when she hears the mayor's comments on the news. What a complete and utter fool this man is.

Are we surprised that Carty would do something like this. Clear and simple, the man is an evil sociopath.
I started in the Old West End to Deveaux area, to downtown area and back to Old West End area, in the matter of one hour, I saw 5 police cars roaming the area. Some were alone in the police car and some had two policemen/women in the car. Nothing has changed in my area, no less police patrolling.
I thought I read in the Blade that street patrol cops would not be cut in numbers (other areas were though - like was said on here from somebody from wspd, that cops are now told to not tell people a cop will be there if they call to report a burglary or robbery unless that cop can guarantee to do it personally, because most of those calls won't be followed up on anyway - scary thought, more so since it's been posted here, so now the crooks KNOW.)

Toledoans for taxes they get very little in return.
"No man is an island entire unto himself..." It might be the heritage of heavy manufacturing in Toledo which has left the residue of harshness in our locale. As a group we seem to turn toward the negative and respond to events in contrary, almost angry fashion. The recent dramatic alteration in the world economy has immediate impact on us as individuals with the changes going far into the future.
Sizzling rhetoric does not change the hearts and minds of dedicated law enforcement professionals who accomplish their chosen task effectively. Many of us have a prayer for the faithfully departed. I have no question our Mayor is familiar with it.
