Working behind the scenes a Toledo city councilperson is gathering enough support to call for a vote of "no confidence" in Mayor Carleton S. Finkbeiner. In order for a special meeting to take place for the vote the councilperson would need 7 members to agree, or for council Pres. Sobczak to call for the meeting. WSPD broke this story at 3p and will have details throughout the afternoon on it's progress.

I don't know what this means other than to formally disagree with his performance. I find it funny that Carty sends his top
administrator to negotiate with the police and he comes to a gentleman's agreement only to have it rejected by the mayor.
40-45000 signatures on a recall petition AND a vote of no confidence from the council -- oughtta send SOMEbody a pretty clear message that his performance is less than acceptable.
LOL - riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. He could care less what council OR the constituants think!!
The TPPA is offering ito switch the city's pickup of their pension (10%) to 26 additional days off out of the 5 days a week/48 week a year schedule (I imagine they get vacation every year). This would be more expensive than what we have now. What would any other mayor do? I bet every member of council wishes they were not in office. They want to place the blame for an economy that has failed on the mayor rather than do what needs to be done to balance our budget. If Carty accepts this TPPA offer of "concessions", then what should he do next? We are still over $20 million in the hole when the police begin to pick up their 10% of pension, and either take or bank their 26 days of additional leave every year. We will still have to probably lay off 150 cops along with additional city employees to balance the budget. All that has really changed is that the TPPA has secured their members an additional 26 days of paid leave every year.

You are assuming that when officers are given the day off that another officer is brought in at overtime rate to cover the vacant position. This is not the case, as I understand it the vacant spot goes unfilled.
That would be an additional cost that may, or may not, occur. It would not make sense to lay off employees and use overtime to man the positions if we are trying to reduce a deficit. If the police take off 26 days in line with their other vacation time then there will be quite a reduction in manpower in the line. If they spread it out through the year that also seems to create problems. And none of this takes care of the deficit. So there will be additional layoffs.

"And none of this takes care of the deficit" Apparently you missed the part where the TPPA accepted the 10% cut in the pension pickup which will save the city millions. Giving an employee the day off does not "cost" the employer anything, he would be paid either way.
Lets see we just had the announcement of the Chrysler bankruptcy which will result in layoffs till July 27th or more for TNAP. GM Powertrain has rumors of its possible demise. Layoffs at University of Toledo and TPS. Can you say no tax receipts. I suppose the haters will still blame the mayor but if and when he goes many of us will be laughing at you all. Especially when your man fails because of what is happening in the national economic crisis that is also affecting Toledo.

Just heard another utterance of stupidity by Extreme radio. "The government should give me back my own money for I know how stimulate the economy." Yes go buy another Toyota that will help Toledo!

Wolfmeister you are part of the problem. When the people believe the government knows better than they do what to do with thier money, we're all in trouble.
I never said the govt. should give me back my money. I said they shouldn't take it in the first place. One of our founding fathers was smart enough to say "any government big enough to give you everything you need, is big enough to take it all away."
And I know this is above your tiny little head which is buried up your ass, but try to grasp this.......America=freedom to buy whatever I want from whomever I want. Buying the Toyota kept the salesman working, and everyone else who got a piece of the money on down to the teller at the bank where he holds his mortgage, and where I got my loan from.
Man you are just plain stupid. No wonder you hide behind a screen name.
Here's to the crazy ones, the rebels, the troublemakers, the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
Buying the Toyota kept the salesman working and maybe 3 or 4 others. What about the thousands that work in manufacturing here in the city and the government jobs that they support? No Nitpicker buying a Toyota is not being a loyal Toledoan. In Korea they export some 700,000 autos into this market we export 6000 to them they promote loyalty to the domestic Korean automakers in various ways even with trade restrictions. We are the only country to not realize the importance of a strong manufacturing base.

3 or 4 others? Let's count them up....the salesman, the salesman's boss, the dealership owner, the service manager, mechanic, receptionist, cleaning crew, car washers, (pause) grocers who sell to all of the above, doctors, dentists, lawyers who deal with all of the above, gas station attendant, petroleum manufacturer, ad salesmen, bankers etc. who deal with all of the above, guy i buy my groceries from since i have more spendable income now that i get 46mpg, places i spend the extra money like restaurants, movie theatres, electronic stores, all the people who serve all the people above and etc etc etc.
I didn't mention all the people who own stock in the company and will take thier profit and spend it somewhere supporting someone, or the many equity firms that untold number of people may be involved in who don't even know I bought a car.
Here's to the crazy ones, the rebels, the troublemakers, the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
Are only loyal toledoans the ones who buy Toledo built jeeps?? They have a buncha jap parts in them, you know... Or can you still be loyal and drive a chevy?
What if all of a sudden toledo starts putting out Fiats, what then?
You talk about Korean exports - WTF does that have to do with Toyotas?
BillyBob you silly boy the GMC has a Toledo built transmission. The Korean story was an analogy a comparison of what true patriots do in other countries.

Of course we can blame the mayor. He has to cut costs when his own, insane projections of revenue fall short. He should have prepared the budget for big shortfalls years ago. He lived in denial all that time.
But of course, he's just living like YOU tend to, as the average person. You live beyond your means and then cry out for a fucking government handout when you can't pay your bills. But you should have lived WELL UNDER your means in a place like Toledo, that has been SO OBVIOUSLY dying economically since the 1980s. You should have saved money and spent frugally for DECADES, here. And so should Czarty.
So he's either stupid or a fraud. Like you, probably. So, which is it, Wolfie?
I get really SICK AND TIRED of hearing people spout the same bullshit that revolves around "nobody saw this coming". You'd have to have been blind and brain damaged not to have seen this coming. Factories fled, and population fled. Energy cost soared. Any job replacement around here pretty much meant a $24/hr factory job was transformed into a $12/hr retail job. So, where's all the economic activity that is supposed to cover our vast cost of government?
I told a friend just last night that we have a culture of MORONS who kept expecting their investment portfolios to continue delivering 10% returns on a base economy that just wasn't producing that level of growth. That's EXACTLY the problem that has afflicted Toledo. The paper profits were all fraudulent. Toledo's economy is just a fraud. A lie. A fantasy. The REAL economy is based upon a retail base that is itself dependent upon consumer credit that is now contracting seriously. Manufacturing has been hollowed out. The entire socio-economic picture is in fact so terrible that Toledoans would be a lot better off in the long run if they DISBANDED their city government and simply let people fend for themselves. Because at this rate, if the weather or crooks don't get us, TAXATION WILL. And I'd much rather take my chances with the weather (I have warm clothes) and crooks (I'm armed, like any sane person should be).
...all to go to hell. I want to see Sobczak in the office (maybe he won't be a fool and will resign). Then we'll see how some of these blowhards can really handle pressure.
Old South End Broadway
Sobczak is Carty Mach 2.0, and he owes his political life to Finkbeiner. The only way Sobczak would call such a vote is if every member was behind the vote, and Carty already announced he was not running for reelection.
http://historymike.blogspot.com/
Carty called two of the council men for a sit down and laid the law down. Collins lost two votes. Gutless city council. I hope
we find out who the two were so we can send them on their way.
We'll see how they handle future calls for either income enhancement or service cuts. So far they haven't really impressed me with their fiscal acumen.

Who were the two quislings with the cold feet?
word quislings when I play Scrabble.
Seriously you need to get some help....your obsession with Fred is unhealthy.
Your lover Carty is the biggest idiot I have ever seen, besides your posts.
Wolfman realizes he is working in enemy territory here. He finds the banter of ideas stimulating. The personal attacks only embolden him to further offer his diverse views to the monoculture of extreme thoughts. He takes no offense by what is said but furthers the ideas of diversity, inclusiveness, and American loyalty. Hatred is not the answer but healthy discussion will be therapeutic.

So you're actually The Lone Wolf like Lenny on Laverne and Shirley. It's all coming into focus now.
Here's to the crazy ones, the rebels, the troublemakers, the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
Maybe we should all begin to refer to ourselves in the third person on this board(what the hell is that all about)! Wolfman needs to be reminded of the boy who cried wolf to many times........nobody listens after awhile
Won't it be wonderful. In fifty years all of us who blog on this site will be nothing more than names at the hall of records.
I find it amusing that so many people are terrified of "Runtman". Oh, I'm just shaking in my boots. Toledo has its own version of Saddam Hussien.
