Dems propose earmark contribribution ban

Now some Democrats are saying taking money from businesses who request earmarks is wrong. Will Marcy Kaptur support it?

Move over Jeff Flake, Paul Hodes and Gabrielle Giffords are looking for a piece of the anti-earmark action.

The two junior Democrats are introducing legislation in the House on Wednesday that would bar colleagues from accepting campaign contributions from any beneficiaries of earmark spending.

No votes yet

What's the "over/ under" on how far this goes?

Long overdue. I bet John Murtha votes against it which is why I wholeheartledly support the bill.

The Republicans will never go for this

Probably for the same reasons why the Republicans never addressed earmark reform when they were in control

Ah...so two wrongs make a right.

The Pelosi-Reid era of leadership has been nothing but disasterous. So much for the 'change' the voters were promised.

Pelosi, Reid, Boehner, McConnell, John Murtha et al are the poster children for why we need a healthy and robust third party who's not at the beck and call of special interest groups and their narrow agenda like the Democrats and Republicans are.

I never said it was right. I was answering Chris' question. But if I may, if it wasn't for changes the Democrats made in making these contributions transparent, we wouldn't be having this conversation--because we wouldn't have know about PMA. True?

Pink Slip

But yet John Murtha still isn't subject to a formal investigation by the House. If Murtha was a Republican, my sense is that he'd been lock, stock and barrel in Pelosi's gunsights.

Hence, the dysfunctional nature of our government. Party before principles. Party before country.

If we publicly financed campaigns and did away with the absurd notion that money=speech, then we might not be in this situation

Pink Slip

I completely agree.
