Rant and Rave

I just watched Rant and Rave on Fox Toledo News at Four and was quite surprised to see Opal Covey. This is the type of coverage I like to see, where everyone is given a chance to have their say when running for any office.

Hats off to Fox Toledo News at Four. I don't think she has a chance on becoming Mayor, because of the "good old boy" system in Toledo but the fact that she has the fortitude to keep trying says a lot to me about her value system.

No votes yet

I caught this too, very articulate. She would make an excellent WSPD talk show host rounding out current entertainers. Give a perspective more balanced than offered now. A humanistic view with compassion for our fellow man.

please be productive. Don't make everything about WSPD.

The other ASS CLOWN has spoken. Get a life. Does everything have to be about WSPD.

Yeah I know it gets a little old just like listening to WSPD. Use to be one of their bigger fans but just ran an experiment here on Swamp Bubbles. Chrismyers you say, "don't make everything about WSPD" and I would hope WSPD would not make everything about Carty and go back to the once loved news radio formatt. Believe me, I am not the only listener who's tired of the constant negative Carty Talk.

Wolfboy, I felt the same about a different radio station. I tried an experiment of my own - I stopped listening. It worked!! Im not annoyed by it anymore at all!! AND - now it's even got a whole new venue.

Maybe if you and all the other folks who are tired of it change the channel things will happen - but hijacking every post on a blog into your own personal 'I hate fred and brian' whine? Kinda childish

The "good old boy" system in Toledo can be blamed for a lot of things. However, I think its more likely that Opal Covey won't be elected because she's nuttier than a box of Cracker Jacks.

Though at least Fox Toledo is being fair by giving all candidates air time.

nuttier than the current mayor or the current mayoral candidates. It is all in the eye of the beholder.

Someone here told me to just stop listening to Speedy if the constant weather, traffic and sports on the tens bothered me, along with all the nauseating commercials. I took the advice. I've found a radio station with real news reports and genuine analysis. I kinda miss, though, listening to Fred hawking the restaurant of the week as the best gosh darn food you've ever eaten.

Patience is a great virtue.

Jeremy, if you would like me to I can e-mail you my favorite restaurants and update them weekly. This week for instance I will be hawking the Star Diner and Whitehouse Inn. In a few weeks I will be doing live spots for Carrabba's. Just send me your e-mail address, I'd be glad to do it for you.

Any statement I make is the opinion of me exercising my first amendment right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is generally permitted.

i love 1370am radio... i find people who hate it have never actually listened to it only once. try listening 10-20 time in a row and you will see all your hatered is miss guided and miss informed.

I listened to wspd for decades, but during the last election (Obama v McCain), it became impossible to listen to, without blowing a gasket. They'd rant about the same interviews, etc. that I'd heard - but wspd had begun to be toxic, and put such slanted views - I was shaking my head, wondering how they could have listened to or watched the same interviews or programs that I did, and come away with such totally strange angle of it. I came to realize pretty quick, that everything on wspd was going to be pro McCain - Republican, no matter what. And wspd would go to any length to sling imagined dirt at Obama (or anything not republican).

I have never considered myself to be a democrat or republican - I am more Libertarian, but have always voted republican. I used to listen to Rush, et al, a lot. But I became so disqusted so quickly every time I put wspd on during this last year, I couldn't listen to it anymore. Not that I was a big fan of Obama (or any) - even early on when I didn't know much about any of the candidates, this 'slant' became very obvious - a slant that became increasingly more toxic & not even accurate a lot of the time.

I discovered 1310 (Air America - CNN Radio) - and it was like a breath of fresh air by comparison. They actually talk about what's going on, without the tpoison. I've heard so many very informed people, politicians, authors - on 1310 - I learned so much more than I ever would have with wspd. There's several different programs - hosts just as wspd has. Of course any dyed in the wool adament republican is going to try to find fault - those die hard Rush fans who believe his word is gospel, will find fault I;m sure. But I suggest that anybody who still has an open mind, to give it a listen to - more than once, and more than one of the programs. Now & then I still flip over to wspd, and flip right back again, because I can't stand the hosts on wspd anymore. Of course, 1310 is national news reporting - not local to Toledo - but worth the listen.

Amen starling02 wolfman feels exactly as you!!! He thinks you are of kindred spirits! He thinks many of WSPD listeners are of like minds as us. Wolfman says that he felt a responsibility to give balance since not allowed on AM radio 1370. He feels this is a bastion of right wing nut job skulduggery. Perfect place to promote peace and love among all Americans something Fred has forgotten since the late 1960s. Hope more will take the time as you have to express your displeasure as you so bravely have and stand up to this station that does not represent the majority in Northwest Ohio.

If WSPD is as "toxic" and "slanted" as you claim that it is, then why shouldn't you yourself be regarded just as "toxic" and "slanted" about your views? After all, it seems that you are either unable or perhaps unwilling to show exactly how and why the talk show side of WSPD is "toxic" and "slanted".

Anyone can make a claim, but saying so does not make it so. Objectivity cuts both ways. If what Fred, Brian and Maggie said or are saying is as "toxic" and "slanted" as you claim they are, then you have a "golden opportunity" to come to the level of maturity by producing some of their quotes in context as they have done with regards to whom they have critiqued.

Be specific. What is your evidence? You claimed that WSPD is repetitive, so what? Being repetitive is a style. Just because you might not like a style does not show why someone's arguments are true or false. Repetition is not a refutation. Saying something over and over neither justifies nor falsifies one's belief.

Even if you could show that WSPD talk show hosts are "toxic" and "slanted", that does not necessarily objectively demonstrate that "Air America" is more objective. Falsifying one thing is not positive evidence for another thing.

Shooting down one thing, based on one's personal preference or on the basis of an alleged lack of objectivity, does nothing to show how something else is less "toxic" and less "slanted".

Ann Coulter comes to mind. Personal friend of the lead sociopath. I've covered this in previous posts. Some other titillating examples: Union slugs, Carleton S for shit for brains Finkbeiner ETC. This juvenile behavior is pathetic and non productive. As for being repetitive as a style so was Tokyo Rose! I communicate this way because I find the WSPD audience responds well to a guttural form of language.

Odd thing is that the (WSPD 1370's) ratings seem to disagree with you.

Or, at least cast you with the minority of listeners.

It just doesn't add up. . .

Hooda Thunkit

If you don't like WSPD, turn the channel.

If you don't like the Toledo Blade, cancel your subscription.

If you don't like Air America, turn the channel.

End of discussion.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

jayott - I never used the word 'repetitive'. And I was not referring to local news, like Brian Wilson or Maggie. I was referring to national news. I used the word slanted, because I felt that they were slanted - the reporting on wspd by Rush & Beck was not anything close to the same interviews, etc. that I had listened to - the same that Rush & Beck were referring to. I still switch over to wspd time to time, and switch right back to 1310 - because quite frankly, all Rush & Beck seem to do anymore is rant & spew venom & twist things into whatever way they want - always the strict republican slant. I am not anti republican at all - but the republican viewpoints that I have seen & heard this last year disqust me - they no longer represent my viewpoints.
But the main reason I prefer 1310 is that I actually learn things - the interviews & programs are so informative & interesting, whereas, Rush & Beck it's always the same rant & bitch sessions. My guess that wspd's ratings are higher than 1310 is simply because most people have not discovered 1310 yet. I've mentioned this radio station to many people since I discovered it, and not one person seemed to know it even exists. I grew up with wspd as did most locals - it has always been the major news station to everybody I know., and it's the station I always listened to & liked - until this last year, and it's just not the same as it used to be. I learn nothing new or substantial from wspd anymore, and I"m sick to death of just hearing Rush rant about Obama. I don't care about anybody's opinion of Obama (and he was not my first choise either). I'd much rather hear what's really going on currently with Wall St, the Senate, world news - than just more rants against Obama.
At any rate - to each his own. Before you look down your nose at 1310, I suggest you give it a fair listen & make your own choise. You may decide you prefer to hear Rush rant about Obama rather than listen to famous economists & senators discuss what's going on in the country & the world - I've learned so much more than I've learned on tv news programs even. And the programs are far more interesting than Rush & Beck combined. But choose your own station - easy to do.

You are right, you did not use the word "repetitive". I got you confused with the Blade who uses the term "constant drumbeat" which means "repetitive."

The mayor agrees with the Blade when he says, "day in and day out."

Sorry if I put their words into your mouth.
