NEWS RELEASE: TARPS Sets Ridership Record

At this morning’s Toledo Area Regional Transportation Authority’s  Board of Trustees monthly meeting, the trustees were told that the first six months of TARTA’s direct management of the Toledo Area Regional Paratransit Service have been a success.

TARPS, which previously was operated by an outside contractor, had record ridership during that six month period and March’s 15,293 riders were an all-time TARPS record.

The following news release recounts the first six months and looks forward to TARPS plans for the remainder of 2009.

So for $2 roundtrip, this bus will pick people up at a rider pre-designated time and take them anywhere in "All of Toledo, Sylvania, Maumee, Rossford, Perrysburg, Ottawa Hills, Waterville and Spencer and Sylvania Townships. " Then wait for them and take them back home or where ever else they may care to go for $2 a stop. The costs of providing this service must be astronomical ! No wonder people are using it.

Mass transit was never intended to provide such select individual service. And it shouldn't.
