Stainbrook on Talk Back with Andrew Z

Apparently Job Stainbrook can now add journalist to his ever-growing list of accomplishments, according to his interview with Andrew Z in the Talk Back segment of Fox Toledo News.

When asked about his habits of recording phone conversations (namely with Republican BOE members), Stainbrook answered that he did record phone calls, but justified this by saying that as a journalist this is common practice. After Andrew Z attempted to discredit Stainbrook's journalistic credentials, Jon replied that his work "on the side" is as a journalist and running a public relations firm. Firstly, who would trust their public image in the hands of a person who is clearly not mentally stable, and second, who does Stainbrook publish his "work" with?

Concerning the taping of BOE member Lynn Olman, Stainbrook stated that he sat a tape recorder on the table when the two met in person. Somehow I do not believe this story, but again, look at the subject matter.

The upstanding Republicans of Lucas County have been sitting idly by while Stainbrook has systematically torn the LCRP apart. I would urge upstanding GOP members to strongly pressure Stainbrook to call a central committee meeting to discuss the severe injustices of the current chairman. While I respect the chairmanship, Stainbrook has acted in ways that question his character, morality, and devotion to the party. I would also urge you to email or write ORP Chairman Kevin DeWine concerning this situation to put pressure on the state party to intervene.

His journalism credentials consist largely of writing for the local music band-zine Glass Eye and the occasional tidbit JRB throws him at the Blade for fluffy muscial interviews.

Besides, even if you accept the broad definition of "journalist" to describe the Stained One, there are a few problems with his claims. First, he either has to be acting as a journalist OR the Republican Party chair at any one time. No way can he act as both i the same capacity at the same time.

Second: if journalists want to record a conversation, they routinely ask for the other party's permission. To keep it legitimate, they need to capture both the request and the consent on the tape recording. Here are some ethics tips for Mr. Stainbrook from NYU's School of Journalism:

You know, the more this dips**t opens his mouth, the stupider he sounds. Thanks for the laugh of the day!
