Executive pay excessive? 170 million inauguration

For those of you thinking that executive pay is out of touch, Washington proves it is still out of touch with the 170 million inauguration.

From very partisan source of ABC news:

The country is in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, which isn't stopping rich donors and the government from spending $170 million, or more, on the inauguration of Barack Obama .

Change would have been having a more meager celebration instead of wanting the biggest. Heck some of the people participating in the O-basim were the same who verbally dressed down Detroit auto execs for flying in a private jet. And you wonder what is wrong with Washington?

Also does anyone hate how the media and commentators are acting like he is the second coming? Also, the talk of celebrity is all over the place. I have not seen so many articles comparing Obama's wife to Jackie O. Over the top? Historic day yes, but let's not get carried away. I have a feeling this may be the best time for Obama. The stock market sure sank today, it is probably only the beginning.

eh

eh I really don't think this is a big deal.

Most of the money is spent towards security and they can't really keep the people away.

Secondly it's not like the money is wasted or given to a person or business that believes they're entitled to it.

Every penny that is spent is spent toward someone who's at least generally providing a service.

I think the financial debates shouldn't be this nitpicky and should be restrained to things such as a stimulus that is debateable if it will stimulate anything and bailouts that have yet to bail average citizens out.

I just heard an NPR clip about the Bush outlay .
CBS news this morning showed the dozens of private jets at Dulles airport . They needed an overflow airfield to handle all the rich folk flying in. This is a double standard for sure , especially in this tough economy in which Obama will be asking sacrifice from all of us.

it was lousy symbolism with what's going on with our country's economy.

On the other hand, Mikey has a valid point about security costs. There had to be some way of toning down some of the other stuff, though.

"Also does anyone hate how the media and commentators are acting like he is the second coming? Also, the talk of celebrity is all over the place. I have not seen so many articles comparing Obama's wife to Jackie O. Over the top? Historic day yes, but let's not get carried away".

This smacks of naked envy. Besides the obvious 'first black President' angle, you have to keep in mind this family is young, photogenic and personable...yes, very comparable to the 'other' Democrat families conservatives love to hate, the Kennedys and the Clintons, when those two were fresh in office.

Afraid you're going to just have to suck it up on this topic until the 'newness' factor wears off, if it ever does.

Far left radicals ACTUALLY complaining about $170 million B.O. spent, versus the $40 million G.W.spent???!! Someone above has actually read some history about this and, actually used correct figures ??!! Honesty ,with leftists seems very hard to accomplish...though prodding, by other screamers and droolers on the far left, prompted it.

that Obama's inauguration contributed much more to the economy than ol' GW did.

and it didn't go to the banks.

and isn't that the goal? to move money around?

what am I missing?
