*TAKE BACK TOLEDO TO LAUNCH RECALL OF MAYOR CARTY FINKBEINER*

WHO: Tom Schlachter, Brian Wilson, Ed Nagle, and the leadership of Take
Back Toledo

WHAT: Kick-off of TAKE BACK TOLEDO and the recall of Mayor Carty Finkbeiner

WHERE: Erie Street Chowder House
Erie Street Market

WHEN: Monday, January 12, 5:30 PM

WHY: After three years of nationally embarrassing gaffes, increased taxes and fees, and creating an atmosphere decidedly unfriendly to the creation and expansion of business within the City of Toledo, a group of business and civic leaders have moved forward with an effort to recall Mayor Carty Finkbeiner. Tom Schlachter and other TAKE BACK TOLEDO leaders will address supporters and petitions will be issued for
circulation. TAKE BACK TOLEDO will collect more than 20,000 valid signatures from registered Toledo voters by April 18, to place the recall of Mayor Carty Finkbeiner on the September 2009 primary election ballot.

Mr. Schlachter and other members of the leadership of TAKE BACK TOLEDO will
be available to address the media.

It's actually at 5:30 PM.

There are two other events as well. 5:30 PM at Dave's Home Cooked Foods on Reynolds Road on January 14 at 5:30 and at Arnie's on Central Ave. on January 15 at 5:30.

Chris, I'd appreciate it if you would repost this information later today after the release comes out. I'm not sure how the misinformation got to you.

Thanks Chris.

I'll be sending out an advisory on the other two meetings tomorrow and Friday.

This effort is going to fail miserably. WSPD should stay out of politics and just report the news. I miss Bob Frantz!

We

will find out.

While I'm not predicting overwhelming success for the effort, I believe it is warranted.

I'm all for a new mayor for Toledo but honestly isn't this recall a little too late?
Don't we vote on the next mayor this coming November anyways?
Wouldn't the energy and money going into this campaign be better served being applied to a worthy candidate for the post rather then removing someone that could be on his way out anyways?

The Take Back Toledo effort will be screening worthy candidates and endorsing them, they also are spearheading a movement to look at the city charter and updating it to strengthen the council input. Removing the mayor sends a clear message to both him and his handlers that things are no longer being run as "business as usual".
Don't tell me you have $400 million of investement and have created over 1600 jobs and then tell me we can't have a police class, fire class, and that we need furloughs, and color coded trash pick up. Something doesn't add up and it's time to answer for your bungling, strong arm, abusive, tryrannical administration.

he meets some of the criteria to be electable, i.e. he actually has his residence in Toledo. Hope you guys can actually keep that in mind when finding an "electable" candidate.

I find it interesting that Take Back Toledo lead by wspd always slams the city to allow the Erie Street Market to be used as a hall and taking business away from the local halls. Then why is wspd/tbt using Eris Street Market as a hall for the meeting other then using local halls? Very interesting. Lets hear the tap dancing music to hear the reason now.

Cue the music, but make it a swan song for Carty. Besides the wonderful irony behind using the mayor's "jewel" to host a party to remove him, there is the one simple fact you neglected. Take Back Toledo is using The Erie Street Chowder House, a private restaurant, thereby creating income for the people who work there. Any other questions Jason? Sometimes it's just too easy.

Take Back Toledo is not being lead by WSPD. It is being lead by Tom Schlachter, Ed Nagle, Brian McMahon, Andy Stuart, Brian Wilson, and Sanford Lueben.

Yes, WSPD and Clear Channel people are at the table, but why should they not be? While John Block is would never deign to sit at a table with anyone in Toledo, he's always trying to dictate what happens here.

WSPD and Clear Channel are just providing ideological balance to the media's coverage of Toledo

I find it laughable that so many of you that believe auto workers are overpaid are the same people that can't figure out why the city is broke.

Pssst, it's because the folks making minimum wage don't pay much in taxes.
14 months ago Jeep had over 4000 people working overtime. Now even when they go back to work towards the end of the month there will only be around 1300, and no overtime. On top of that Hydramatic, and a bunch of supplier plants are also down from last year.

City tax revenues must be hurting big time. After a while it becomes a sort of catch 22, the city is broke so they lay off employees. Now those formerly well paid employees will be paying less in taxes.

If you think the city is broke right now, imagine what it would look like if Chrysler and all the parts plants closed shop. I predict no monies available to buy advertising on a station who is so anti- union and anti city. It is time to stand up against the only medium in town who gives Toledo a bad name and that is WSPD!

So anti union we had Alan Cox on the air giving his side of the AFSCME vs. City debate. Try again green.

That was your dream show wasn't it Fred? The two people you despise the most squared off in a battle, a union versus Carty. Unions have taken notice of your approach, and your comments on the bailout as well as Mr. Wilson's. What would happen if people started to reach out to your advertisers to encourage them to spend their monies more wisely? Spend their advertising dollars with businesses that support Toledo and its workers. Everyone knows that advertisers hate any type of controversy!! Maybe you could hang on to a couple of your mom and pop business who believe in your mantras. Here is the bigger question, could WSPD keep operating with only mom and pop businesses sponsoring them? Remember it is your right to say anything you wish, but it is also the right of your listeners and it's community to decide to support the businesses that support those very same words. Try again Fred, you are almost out of time!

What is the ratio of union workers to non-union workers in the WSPD listening range? Your scenario on the advertiser's controversy works both ways.
For example, the more everyone cries about Wal-Mart, the more money I spend there. I don't understand why the unions are against Wal-Mart when there are many, many non-union places doing business here.

Gee Fred, I'm so sorry, I didn't know. How much time do you have anyway?

So green you believe Banner Mattress, Taylor Cadillac, David Fairclough Diamonds, MacCafe, Carrabbas, are mom and pop operations? I don't know what "everyone" knows as you appear to, but I do know advertisers like a big audience and WSPD has that in spades. Good try though green.

But that isn't what greencollarman asked.

It should be noted that there really isn't a bad time for businesses to advertise.

When the economy is good, it's wise to advertise in order to compete.

When the economy is in the tank, it's prudent to advertise in order to retain business and stay afloat. Customers can and do forget about businesses that fail to advertise.

This whole recall effort is a waste of time.

Whoever replaces him will be just as bad because the Toledo electorate has never ceased to find a guy worse than the guy before. You're all just speeding up the process.

MikeyA

"Speeding" up the process, I like the pun.

How can something be a waste of time while it saves time by speeding up the process?

Then removing the current mayor and replacing him with the Teamsters Local 20 vice president is counterproductive, wouldn't you agree?

There's a city full of walls you can post complaints at

I'm not endorsing Mark Sobczak, but I know from working closely with both men that Mark is much more business friendly than is Carty Finkbeiner.

Mark is also a much better human being by far! The city could do much worse than Mark Sobczak. In fact, it already is with Carty Finkbeiner.

What matters is that the leadership of companies looking to do business in Toledo will read that the mayor has been replaced by a Teamster. The articles they read and the TV news that they watch won't come with a disclaimer stating that Mark Sobczak is a "good Teamster". Toledo already has a reputation for being a union town and this won't help remove that stigma.

If the leadership of Take Back Toledo had a collective IQ greater than 80, they'd realize that they should have rallied behind a candidate and launched attack ads against the mayor instead of starting a recall effort that will at best remove Carty from office 4 months early. I honestly don't think it will happen, and even if it does, we've got a douche bag/turd sandwich situation in November when we enter the voting booth.

"How can something be a waste of time "

It's a waste of time because no real change is made. There will still be a retard running city government the only difference is the name that signs the law authorizing the new fees and taxes to pay for crap that will not help the city.

MikeyA

C'mon Hand don't pretend to be stupid just to get people to comment.

At least I have to pretend.
