Apparently most of our crime problems have been solved as Toledo Police have received directives to crack down of parking violations. The proof is right outside my studio door each morning. Two weeks ago I got a ticket for parking in a no parking zone, one in which I've parked most mornings for the last 15 years. Once in a great while TPD will come by and ticket me, maybe 4 times in all those years. It's on Water St. at 4am so I don't think they gave it much thougth most days.
Well two weeks ago I got another one and decided to just park at a meter since I'd heard they were cracking down on orders of the mayor. I wasn't the only one of course so it wasn't selective ticketing. In fact there are still a few diehards parking illegally, one who I believe lives in the building. This morning as Meghan and I left the building we had a chance to speak with an officer about the crackdown and he explained it was happening all over downtown. So much so that even the Deputies were not parking illegally!
He related a story about an attorney who went so far as to take an old unpaid ticket from her car and place it on the windshield in hopes that she wouldn't get another. Funny thing is he was driving by at the time and saw it. So just a word of advice to anyone smart enough to take it, don't park illegaly on Water St. 'cause the boys in blue are out in full force, at least for now. And remember it's about the law not about the revenue.
Toledo Police Parking Crackdown

You are correct, Fred. Illegal parking is one of those things that absolutely drives the mayor nuts. What really gets under his skin is when people pull up over a curb. On bus tours, he orders whatever unlucky command rank officer was forced to ride along to ticket the car's owner.
He also read in "Governing" magazine about another city (perhaps Chicago) that was making a great deal of revenue from parking and speed enforcement. But with the Traffic Bureau down to eight officers, speed enforcement is almost nil.
Take the mayor on a tour of Ottawa Hills or Perrysburg and arrange to have a whole line of cars parked illegally. Drive the mayor past the line slowly, then let him stumble across a lowly policeman who refuses to do anything about it.
Maybe Carty will go nuts and take a swing at someone and end up in jail for it.
He'd probably get off on a 'Diminished Capacity' plea.
Who'd argue otherwise?
The Finkster doesn't like illegal parking?!?!? Are there legal exceptions when you lock your dog in your vehicle during a hot day?
Damn, I hate that man and his impact on our city.
Sorry.
the two times he was caught he was parked illegally.
Thanks for the reminder!
I now hate him more.
