Sylvania Township Snubs Plan For Merger

Which should have been titled:

Sylvania Takeover Goes Down In Flames
Mayor Craig Stough Hung in Effigy

But is actually: Issue can't return for at least 3 years

From the article: Voters in Sylvania Township last night rejected the idea of exploring a merger with the city of Sylvania, voting overwhelmingly against the formation of a merger commission.

The article goes on to quote Gary Sommer of One Sylvania, the 'grass roots' group heavily supported by Sylvania City Councilman Doug Haynam's wife Pam Haynam, as stating that this was a missed opportunity. Which is true. The city of Sylvania missed an opportunity to annex the entire township in one fell swoop.

Again, from the article: "I think it's kind of shortsighted," he [Sommer] said. "This is something the community should have looked at."

I've got news Gary. The residents did look at it, and didn't like what they saw. Moreover, I think it's interesting that Ms. Schmitt failed to mention the vote count. Here it is, courtesy of Lucas County:

My thanks to Sylvania Township trustees Carol Contrada, Pamela Hanley and Dee Dee Liedel for their help in defeating this takeover.

The elites don't like it when the commoners fail to rubber-stamp one of their consolidation moves. Count on the primary interests making a few moves behind the scenes to make the commoners suffer for their impertinence. I predict a few "service holes" will magically appear in the police and fire response windows for Sylvania Twp.

I get the general point of what you're saying.

But I"m not sure that I'd consider the "elites" to be the city residents and the "commoners" to be the township residents. Seems like there are more wealthy people in the township vs. the city proper? lol

The elites are your non-working classes (politicians, lawyers, bankers, etc.), and the commoners are those who take wages or salaries from companies. In order to grow in prosperity, the non-working classes have to have ever-larger and more centralized government on which to leech money.

The township operates its own police department and we operate the fire department for both the township and city, so there will not be a 'service hole' in retaliation for defeating the merger. The only services that some township residents depend upon from the city is water and sewer, otherwise services are provided by the township, government entities other than the city, or the private sector.

Ah...so they'll see a fire department "service hole" in the city for passing the merger issue there?

(kidding...only kidding) ;)

Well, the parasitical elite need to form ever larger governments in order to continue feeding their insatiable demands for more free money. They also hate to be crossed in their plans for enacting such domination. So, they're going to do SOMETHING to you. I don't know what that will be, but it will certainly be something.

Toledo already achieved a stranglehold on development in Lucas County due to that water "agreement" the elite railroaded through. So maybe they'll attack you through water fees.
