Business leaders raising money to kick out Carty

Another recall effort? Maybe they should pool their money and back a good business candidate.
---
TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - It's been tried before by private citizens, but now News 11 has confirmed some Toledo businesses want to examine the possibility of getting Mayor Carty Finkbeiner out of office.

WTOL's sources say it was an invitation-only meeting where dozens of business owners and reps talked about how to recall Mayor Finkbeiner. Some members even talked about securing a new web site to help the campaign.

And then you'll get Konop, Block's hand-picked puppet. Actually, Carty was Block's had-picked fave, back in the old days. Once he got the Mud Hens downtown, as Block always wanted, Block realized he was a loose cannon and couldn't be controlled. Either way, you'll be screwed, as always.

We're going to have to face facts.

There is ZERO chance of selecting a good business-associated candidate.

This is not an area known for successful businessmen. Those that are successful are largely on the dole (using connections to government for their business, like Tom Noe) or are so vicious from their business practices that we don't want them having government power over people.

The more that businesses flee this area and are "replaced" with retail-only stupidity, the more true this becomes.

At any rate, whatever "businessman" might step forward is almost 100% certain to kiss the ring of John Block. That means by default said businessman will have to run a huge government devoted to flowers and lights and wasting taxpayer money by the bucketful just so some sonofabitch in Pittsburgh can feel good about his newspaper in an old Labor-center of the Rust Belt.

And if anyone's troubled by this "negativity", then please explain why real business candidates never step up, or never make it beyond the primaries. EXPLAIN THAT ONE!

business type person willing to stand up to this Dem machine in Toledo

Anyone who ever did was eventually forced out of town. The list of people is long.

The first I ever took notice of the Block Family's destruction tactics was against a woman that ran for Mayor, and her husband, who at the time, was on the school board. I believe their name was Deutch, but it's been many years. The endless editorials became front-page ones as it got closer to the election, and they became more and more vile. I think they wound up leaving town within a few years.

I've seen his posts on other sites.

there was another upstanding citizen in the community that was rallying the troops to garner another recall crusade this term, but nothing ever materialized.

There's not enough time to get the resources together to even think of ousting Carty now.

I'm actually surprised that there are enough businesses left in Toledo with the capital to even threaten Carty, to be honest. But it's crystal clear that those that are carrying the financial weight of Carty's budget have had enough.

You're just going to have to grit your teeth for the duration, it seems...

I've long since wearied of watching people like you express such utter contempt for the working class. Dry up. Get some professional help.

I believe GZ is talking about you, magician.

Why do you continue this tiresome vendetta against Brian? It stopped being amusing a long time ago.

El Hiccupo is an idiot.

PAMELA DAOUST was the woman I was trying to think of. Can't remember her husband's name for sure, but think it was Richard. Anybody else old enough to remember that Blade vendetta?

Dang Darksied....that long ago, eh? :)

Mr. Block was never far from the center of public discussion. In 1975, he even became the centerpiece of the city’s mayoral race. Pamela Daoust, a council member, ran against Mr. Kessler, the incumbent, on the strength of a single issue: Paul Block, Jr.

“There is no question The Blade has the power to make or break politicians,” Mrs. Daoust said, in one of many attacks against Mr. Block. “I think the time has come for people to take the decision out of the hands of party bosses and publishers.”

Mrs. Daoust lost by 17,000 votes, of 103,000 cast.

so it looks like hating the Blocks has been going on for quite a while....

(full disclosure: I was 9 years old in 1975)

I had lunch with him. He gave me a rundown of their objectives. This is a very serious group that should not be underestimated. They don't care when it gets on the ballot even if it means Carty only has a couple months left in office. They are trying to send a message that the business community has had enough. They will also be forming a pac later to support pro-business candidates.

Don't we really need pro-Liberty candidates instead? If Toledo's laws soon become structured towards business, then yet another travesty against the citizen will occur.

About the only thing anti-business around Toledo is if Czarty doesn't like your business. If he DOES like it, the red carpet is rolled out, and you can hardly claim that's "anti-business". Treating businesses unfairly in this fashion is what's anti-business, but those who gain from such largesse (like Convergys did, as they laughed their way into town, then laughed their way out of it) will not speak out against it.

Toledo is very business UNFRIENDLY! The taxation rates, ever-increasing fees, hostile government, and a newspaper that will do what they have to to destroy you if you cross the publisher does not make Lucas County attractive to prospective business.

When I worked at the port authority, Toledo was often the butt of jokes in that industry. Not because of our port, which all agreed was well run under the new stevedore, but because of our government and our newspaper.

If you don't think people around the country don't know about the Blade, you aren't spending much time outside of the area.

let us know if and when they might need some support as far as shoeleather or $$.

where can I send my contribution to this worthwhile effort ?

for Toledo!!! .Any businessman, still left in Toledo, HAS to be a Dimorat. The smart R's, left along with hundreds of other companies in the 80's,90's and the 00's! So,it has to be D, owned businesses who have FINALLY figured out ,R's buy their goods and services also but, ARE GONE!!!! LONG GONE, NOT TO RETURN!!! EVAH!!!
