Palin Accepted $25,000 in Gifts, Alaska Records Show

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has made a crackdown on gift-giving to state officials a centerpiece of her ethics reform agenda, has accepted gifts valued at $25,367 from industry executives, municipalities and a cultural center whose board includes officials from some of the largest mining interests in the state, a review of state records shows.

The 41 gifts Palin accepted during her 20 months as governor include honorific tributes, expensive artwork and free travel for a family member. They also include more than $2,500 in personal items from Calista, a large Alaska native corporation with a variety of pending state regulatory and budgetary issues, and a gold-nugget pin valued at $1,200 from the city of Nome, which lobbies on municipal, local and capital budget matters, documents show.

COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? … Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions.

should have looked at the other applications first, fellas

Palin is embarrassing herself every time she opens her mouth. I imagine, when McCain offered her the VP spot, she was big of ego, a big fish in a little pond in Alaska & felt so sure of herself that she 'never blinked'. Then the people & the media drooled all over her, called her 'hot' & 'sexy', and I'm sure her head swelled ten times it's size. I also imagine, that she's been paying a bit more attention to news outside of Alaska recently, and has seen & heard many female senators, commentaors, reporters, etc. (who are also highly attractive - I fail to see what's so 'hot' about Palin) speaking in depth, with much understanding of the topics, highly educated & smart women who know what theyr'e talking about & can do so fluently - and Palin perhaps must be starting to feel more like a little fish in a very big pond, that she's not neary as smart (or attractive) as she thought she was, that not all women are drooling over her, that many are even laughing at her. Every male & female news commentator & reporter (and senators) on every news channel I've seen & listened to, puts Palin to shame on their knowledge & abilty to speak intelligently about topics Palin is clueless about but trys to fake her way through. And I doubt they;'d think they were qualified to be VP or president - I bet the idea would scare hell out of them, and they'd be humble enough to realize it was a reach far beyond what they were qualified to do. And admit it.
