Rasmussen: Palin has a higher favoribility ranking than Obama, McCain - 58%

Very interesting:

week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.

Wow---she's quite the "celebrity" now. Does that put her on par with Paris Hilton and Brittany Spears?

Pink Slip

McCain lost my vote when he chose Palin. She's a dynamo woman - there's much to admire about her. But realistically - she's a heartbeat away from being president of the usa, and that terrifies me, as it seems to also terrify most of the rest of the world. I was just in Canada & was talking to a pharmcist & he said Canadians are freaking out that she may end up as vp or president. I don't care how many kids she has, and a lot of men are very good at taking care of the kids - and women all over the world have careers & kids & do it well. Those are non-issues to me. But she's governor of a state with the population the size of Lucas County, and I would imagine, she can't possibly have any real idea of how most of American's live. How familiar is she with inner city schools, neighborhoods, crime, gangs, racial strife, drugs, school violence, etc. How can this woman who's lived her life in pristine Alaska where reindeer outnumber the people, possibly know what life is for a middle or lower income family living in a gang ridden inner city neighborhood?

I think it was a grasp by McCain for choosing her (after only having one conversation with her prior to the choise) . There are so many other more qualified women he could have chosen - why her? Yes, she's pretty, has nice legs, is a good speaker (with speeches written by Bush's speech writers), and as Governor of Alaska, she's outstanding. But not as VP of this country - especially if there's even a remote possiblity that she may end up standing in as President. McCain's choise for VP seems contrived, calculated & I think he underestimates women with this choise.

In 2004 there were a couple of inner city precincts in Toledo who only gave George Bush 2 votes (out of the whole precinct). If they were to pick someone who targets that audience, it would be a loss anyway because McCain would not get votes there. There are 4 reasons for Palin: 1. some disgruntled women voters who feel snubbed by Obama, 2. traditional Republicans, 3. the only person on the ticket with any executive experience, 4. someone who has taken on the establishment. Since those were the targets, she matched them perfectly.

All of the candidates have speech writers, even Carty wants to hire one.

Just watch, she will be much better than Biden.

Why didn't Obama choose Hillary? That would have been close to a slam dunk for him. I could not understand it.

From Chris: Why didn't Obama choose Hillary? That would have been close to a slam dunk for him. I could not understand it.

No one knows. I would speculate that Obama didn't want her because once in office, all the VP has to do is keep breathing until the next election. It's likely that Hillary isn't willing to do that. Also, if you have Hillary next to you, Slick Willy would show up and someone (McCain?) would bring up NAFTA, thus alienating labor unions.

For Hillary's part, she might have been willing to sit in the VP chair for four years, but not eight. She would have to support Obama, right, reason or none, and it's likely HIllary wouldn't want to do that.

Both Hillary and Obama are arrogant to the point of hubris, which their handlers must recognize. Fitting both egos into the same building would be very difficult, at best. And let us not forget Hillary's temper. She tried to bean Slick with an ash tray, and again with a lamp. In another fit of temper she clawed him and left marks on his face. Losing your temper is a luxury that the President can't afford, nor can the vice president. For the VP to lose her temper with the Pres. and whiz an ash tray at Obama's head would make for a disaster.

Starling,
So you're willing to put someone who has been a state senator for a few years and a US Senator for a couple years directly into that office? Do you honestly think he's more qualified? BTW, Alaska has a significantly larger population than Lucas Co.

Now who's being intellectually dishonest? To imply Palin has more necessary experience than Obama to be President/VP is laughable. I'm telling you, give Carty 1.5 years as a governor and he'd be just as qualified as her. What's her background again? Sportscasting? Journalism? I'd take a civil rights attorney or a constitutional lawyer anytime. Obama's not perfect by any means, but this country could use a president who at least understands the Constitution...

From PInk_Slip: To imply Palin has more necessary experience than Obama to be President/VP is laughable.

If you accept Obama's very limited experience in government as being adequate for the presidency, then this criticism shouldn't even appear in one of your posts.

I'm telling you, give Carty 1.5 years as a governor and he'd be just as qualified as her.

Unless you include a daily dose of Prozac and a polo mallet in Carty's experience, you're less than correct. Palin isn't a dangerous psychotic with delusions of grandeur, which gives her a decided advantage over Carty.

I'd take a civil rights attorney or a constitutional lawyer anytime.

There are any number of constitutional lawyers that you wouldn't accept, and you know it. Moreover, the US Constitution isn't all that hard to understand until some corpulent egotist gets elected and wants to make a few exceptions to, say, search and seizure laws.

Obama's not perfect by any means, but this country could use a president who at least understands the Constitution...

Obama? Not perfect?
::thud::
Please pour me a double.

The part that gets under my hide is this little phrase understands the Constitution. You don't want that. What you want is a liberal socialist who understands the Constitution well enough to ignore it and pass even more socialist laws, along with raising taxes for almost everyone to support the new socialist programs that will cause the federal government to grow.

But let this serve notice to the AMERICAN COMNMUNISTS like pinko here who wonder aloud...

This country could use a president who at least understands there are 50 states

"It is wonderful to be back in Oregon, Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it.”

...the Constitution. Pink, I actually agree with you. Hell must be freezing over at this very moment. We DO need a President who understands the Constitution. I'll even admit to some concern about our current Prez in that regard.

Unfortunately, in listening to the junior Senator from ILL, he doesn't understand it either. He sees all kinds of things in there that just aren't.

BUT, I'd take a well-read sportscaster before I'd put another left-wing attorney in charge of anything. You don't need to be a lawyer to understand the Constitution. You just have to be able to read and think . It's all in there. And if it's not there, it's not the gubmint's business....unless of course you need that lawyer to find things that aren't there....frankly a half-dozen beers would do that, and I wouldn't vote for a six pack, either.

This should be good...what kinds of things does Obama see in the Constitution that just aren't there?

Pink Slip

For openers, Obama does not see the bill of rights as anything close to an absolute. With Obama, it's more like a bill of guidelines and suggestions.

Mad Jack

Yeah, his vote in the FISA bill pissed me off. He still may lose my vote over it. I struggle with voting my conscious, or trying to keep the nutjob McCain out of the WH.

Our current President uses Executive orders to invade Iraq and Afghanistan and did not seek approval from Congress.

There is no clear language in the Constitution that allows or denies what he did.

With out a challenge from the public or congress, the next and future presidents can also use the orders in similar ways that Bush used them.

Alaska: 626,932
Lucas County: 455,054
Toledo Area Metro: 618,203

Isn't Lucas County made up of areas other than Toledo, such as Sylvania, Maumee, etc.? Then how could Lucas County have fewer people that Toledo?

purnhrt - I'm assuming that the "Toledo Area Metro" figure refers to the region as a whole.

I believe that according to the Census Bureau, the Toledo MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) includes Lucas, Ottawa, Wood, and Fulton counties.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toledo_Metropolitan_Area

It is interesting that according to the link, that the Toledo Metropolitan Area is considered by some to be an extension of Metro Detriot, go figure!

are saying about Palin across the country: That she is the greatest gift since white bread, that she can turn bread into water, that she can be a mother, grandmother and the president, etc.etc.etc., it should scare the hell out of Toledeons to read today's headlines in the Blade and think that we can pull through this mess with McCain/Palin as president and vice president, when McCain is the "soul mate" of the current president and Palin is the "soul mate" of McCain.

Get this train back on the track, get out of Iraq and use that money for US.

your racism is showing again...."she is the greatest gift since white bread"  The expression is "the greatest thing since SLICED bread" Not 'white' bread. Nice try at slipping one under the radar though.

Don't quit your day job just yet, but maybe you would make a good cop someday. Very observant of you. These are transferable skills.

P.S. to Purehate - I think the expression is 'walk on water'. Never heard "turn bread into water".

Girlfriend, that does not even make sense.

the "best thing since white bread" is what we have always said. Of course, it could be the best thing since "sliced bread," but we say "white bread" therefore does that make me a racist? Isn't white bread good? Although to be fair I do prefer wheat bread or the 20 grain bread. However, I do love bread regardless of it's color.

As far as turning bread into water that is just something from my bipolar disorder. :=)

Girlfriend/boyfriend/friend/friend does any of this make sense?

Chris Myers: Do I have to use the English language correctly on Swampbubbles Blog or can I write whatever I want as long as it is not profane?

Purnhrt. When my friend Jerry showed up at the boxing gym downtown, he was greeted with "What you doin' here, white bread?"

Mad Jack
Mad Jack's Shack

So...it's "turned sliced white bread that has been walked on into water" ??

the word white or black again on this blog unless I am referring to people, because some people are sooooooo sensitive. I will not say for instance, white water rafting, the White House, Snow White, white bread, white snow, white board, white paper white wedding gown, white clouds, black board, blackwater, black beans etc.

"What you doin' here, white bread" is not language I would use, nor would I be at a boxing gym. So I don't know what is said in a boxing gym. Is your friend white and is the person who made the comment black or am I to assume that because broken English was spoken that it was a black person?

in the overall scheme of things. Having always admired your tenacity, I wondered if we could meet at the library sometime...

Wow very interesting, I thought Palin is the heart beat of most of the American peoples when she becomes the youngest first women elected Governor of Alaska, so could be reason to be happening it. Even after that I have made her my idol. She is my idol because she has shown her talent and able to be attracted others view. She has taken a record in the worldwide by becoming a first woman elected Governor of Alaska. Also, she was showing that women could be the Governor as a man.

Even I hadn't viewed the link of that news on your post; I would be appreciated if you gave me that link.

Palin should be exiled to Russia. It wouldn't cost much. After all, she can see Russia from her kitchen window.

Funny shit....but she never said you can see alaska "from her house..."

Down-low is an African-American slang term that refers to a subculture of men who usually identify as heterosexual, but who have sex with men; some avoid sharing this information even if they have female sexual partner(s)
