...her former brother-in-law he might be able to keep it zipped no matter what the tempation. It will be an interesting next four years. Bill Clinton might come out looking like a choir boy in comparison.
Old South End Broadway
is nothing more than a rumor right now perpetuated by the Enquirer and they can be hit or miss.
http://www.womansavers.com/infidelity-statistics.asp. I thought about 50% of all marriages ended in divorce (because of adultery). It appears that the percentage of males who admit to adultery is 22%, and females is 17%. That is quite a bit less than I thought. Perhaps this Todd fellow will find a lot of other things to do besides the "horizontal mambo" with a new partner.
...marriage, http://www.city-data.com/forum/relationships/248717-washington-dc-has-lo.... That is rather surprising to me.
If Palin/McCain win, that would be 2 kept men in the White House, considering McCain lives off of his wife's inheritance.
of divorce in Lucas County, Ohio and other counties in Ohio,http://126.96.36.199/search?q=cache:VgLbMbfgI1AJ:www.odh.ohio.gov/ASSETS/67366DBE35654E7590202E1F73E6FC95/03marrdiv.pdf+divorce+statistics+Lucas+County+Ohio&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us. Lucas County had a rate (per 1000) of 3.7 in 2003. That is a lot better than I thought it was.
SOMEONE has to take care of Trig, their special-needs child. I guess it falls to Todd - let's just hope he's up to the task. Having helped raise more than a few special needs children, I'm well aware of the extra time and care they require and - while I'm not dissing Sarah Palin here - it's going to be twice as hard for him since the Governor would be working a job that requires a tremendous amount of time away from the family.
Unless, of course, McCain doesn't expect her to do anything more than steal a million Hillary voters or so, but that would be crass of me to suggest that Governor Palin is just an election-year gimmick who will have no major policy or administrative role after the election, right?
(goes off to Bad Poster corner for even THINKING John McCain's VP choice is just an electoral PR ploy).
Would you be so concerned about Trig if Todd Palin was the one running for VP?
Would it be ok for Trig to be raised by mostly one parent if that parent was the mother?
His recent fall from grace not withstanding, when John Edwards was campaigning no one was pondering how his children were going to fair with only Mommy at home because Daddy's job "requires a tremendous amount of time away from the family."
What about Obama's young daughters? Don't you think if elected that his job would also require a tremendous amount of time away from home?Being First Lady has a lot of offical business too.
Maybe we just shouldn't elect anyone with children who haven't yet reached adulthood?
Is it just because the baby has Down's Syndrome? Do you have a problem with a developly disabled child possibly living in the White House?
Perhaps it really is just totally sexist at its core.
Women stepped out of that whole having to "stay home and raise them babies" a long long time ago. There is nothing wrong with the man.. the father being the one in charge of the children.
It doesn't make the woman a bad mother, a bad Vice President or President.
If you want to discredit Sarah Palin because you disagree with her politics thats one thing but it shouldn't be because she's a woman any more then a case against Obama should be because of the color of his skin.
This post by OhioKat has my vote for required reading.
Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a socialist.
As a mother of five, I'm sick of the sexism and the hypocrisy. Well said OhioKat.
We don't remember days only moments...
I'm pretty sure if Todd Palin were in Sarah's place, he'd receive as much scrutiny if not more.
there is no male alive in this country who has the featherweight resume that Sarah Palin does who would be offered a VP candidate position, or anywhere close.
Sarah Plain was chosen, in very large measure, strictly because she is a female, and a mother of five children.
Anyone who believes being a governor for less than two years and a mayor of a town of 8,000 people before that should be second-in-command is delusional. No male with this experience level would even get a sniff.
I'm hopeful that vast majority of working women in this country, from those who have jobs that entail real responsibility and power to your convenience store clerk or baby-sitter, can see through this blatantly manipulative charade.
Well said McCaskey. Spot on.
There IS a male alive in this country with a lighter resume running for national office. He happens to be the Democrat nominee for President.
To recast your comments in more or less your own words.... (my changes in CAPS)
"Anyone who believes being a SENATOR for less than two years and a MARXIST COMMUNITY ACTIVIST AND STATE REP OF NO DISCERNABLE ACCOMPLISHMENT before that should be FIRST-in-command is delusional. No ONE with this experience level SHOULD even get a sniff."
Contrasted to the Governor of Alaska who IS an executive, HAS run (is running) something with a mutli-billion dollar budget, and to my knowledge commands the only national guard in the country on permanent active / alert status b/c of its role in early warning re: defense from Russia (but of course, she's ignorant of both foreign and military affairs b/c she's not spent 30 years in Washington)
So yeah, she got the whiff b/c she's a woman. Like BO got the Dem whiff b/c he's what? Most qualified? Get real.

What is your, ummm.....Foundation (ha, ha, I just know you get it!).....for such ridiculous statements?
And why do you believe Asimov considered himself a 'humanist' and an 'atheist'?
Good grief, he endorsed George McGovern for president in '72.
Was he a.....gasp!!!!......Marxist?????
Are you trying to predict and manipulate the presidential election, there.....um.......Raven?
And finally, I believe you've spent far too much time on Terminus. All that water has turned your brain to mush. I believe it is the.....end of the line....for you.
The scrutiny he'd be getting wouldn't include comments about how he should be staying home to take care of his special needs child. Thats the point I was trying to make.
I understand your point.
Your beef is with Historymike's wording in his post.
Fine, Speaking for myself, I've read enough of his material the last couple years to lead me to believe this is one of the most open-minded, progressive bloggers in the area, in all walks of life. The fact alone that he and his family have first-hand experience with special-needs kids should cut him some slack regarding any ill-chosen words he might have used, IMO.
I think Sarah Palin is quite bright and talented, but it's Todd I'm worried about. He doesn't strike me as the brightest bulb in the box, and it was Sarah that both Palins describe as the devoted hockey mom who balanced family and politics. I am concerned about the effect of the loss of the primary caregiver on the family (admittedly, this really occurred when Palin became Governor, but Washington is light years crazier than Fairbanks).
Don't assume I am sexist.
BTW - if Obama had a special needs baby, I would ask the same questions. While Sarah Palin might make a fine VP, I am questioning the timing of this decision. For the Obamas, life will not change in the same way as for the palins, since Michelle has been the primary caregiver.
IMHO - the birth of a special needs child means that every family member involved has to make significant commitments to helping raise the child.
The above should read "Juneau," not "Fairbanks."
(goes off to "Posters Who Forget Their State Capitols" Corner)
that I chose to have (via adoption) I am appalled that it is considered sexist to think that a mother is responsible for raising her children. I am now thinking that some biological mothers of children bear less responsibility for mothering because the children were not planned whereas my children were planned by me to adopt and I took/take full responsibility for raising them and instilling in them morals and values.
Men are less responsible for raising children because of the biological properties afforded them, men are hunters and gatherers and women are nurturers. It looks like Palin has abdicated her role as a mother. Whenever you see Trig, he is being held by another family member, even by a seven year old. I know it takes a village to raise a child, but when does a mother, mother? Except for one time, (she took the baby and gave him back) I have not seen Palin holding her baby. I am sure that there are behind the scenes times when the little baby is held by his mother but if Palin can do it all, I would like to see some of the mothering part and not so much of the barracuda part. I see nothing but tears for these children.
Humans are always trying to change what God created. Not wishing to get into the gay and gay rights issue, just strictly from a sexist v non-sexist standpoint, He created man for woman and woman for man to procreate. A man has a role and a woman has another role. The roles of men and women have become increasingly blurred, which does not bode well for the human race.
I don't believe in the "barefoot and pregnant" stance, but I do believe that once you become pregnant, it is time to concentrate on the life within you until that life is able to fully fend for him/herself, which by law is at the age of 18 (unless you have a child with a disability and then that responsibility is forever). Children First.
Thank you! Well said!
Until the lion writes his own story, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter (African proverb)
the Governor of Alaska is running for Vice President not President, don't get it twisted.
...any better we can play my new favorite game of "cut and paste" on Senator Biden's resume. I understand he's pretty familiar with cut and paste...
And since we're now editing / correcting my post, let me also acknowledge that I know BO has been a member of the Senate about 4 years, not 2 like I wrote... not a mistake, I was discounting his Senate term since he's spent about half of it running for Prez.
Palin (like any VP) is a heartbeat away from being president (regardless of the president's age or health) - she is not qualified to be president.
Women have had careers & children & have handled both successfully . However, I think there's a world of difference between a 40 hour a week job (or even more) & being the president. Even a high power attorney or doctor mom who may be on call & have lots of overtime may find the position of president to be a bit more challenging.
I could care less how many kids she has - she's simply not qualified
"she's simply not qualified". An assertion is not evidence or proof.
She is constitutionally qualified.
She has more non-military executive experience that any of the 3 men on the 2 tickets.
She has more military command experience that the Dem ticket and more recent command experience than the top of her ticket.
Her state borders not our lower 48, but our best international friend and our greatest former and emergent enemy -- and she's had to deal with both to varying degrees.
She's fought against and won vs the "big oil interests" that the left like to paint as bed buddies with the GOP.
Tell me please what 30+ years as one of 100 in the Senate does to match the above? Or back to my original point, what a couple years as a Marxist agitator, a couple years in state assembly, a couple undistinguished years in the Senate and a 2-year presidential run have done to better prepare BO for the presidency than the resume of Gov Palin?
LOL, really, listen to yourself.
She has as much 'command experience' with the Alaskan national guard as Bill Clinton had with the Arkansas national guard when he was governor there...in other words, jack squat, other than knowing when to call for help during times of a natural disaster. How many occasions has 'General Palin' seen fit to send the Alaskan national guard anywhere into the line of duty and 'command' them? Perhaps we can see her strategic plans for invading that Caribou herd.
The 'Marist agitator' as you so moronically describe him has at least the intellectual depth and where-with-all to avail himself for serious press interviews and answer serious questions, including those from Fox News, while the former mayor of Wasilla apparently is too busy studying for her mid-terms to allow voters to see her dance without a script.
Here's some of her vast military experience.
can you show or tell me in what way she has dealt with Russia?
WELL I BELIEVE ALL YOU PEOPLE SHOULD THINK AGAIN -- SHE IS THE GOVERNOR OF OUR LARGEST STATE...THE NATIONAL GUARD IS ON DUTY 24/7'S BECAUSE OF THEIR CLOSE PROXIMITY TO RUSSIA BEING WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE PRACTICALLY......AND THEY ARE ANSWERABLE TO HER..SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN BRIEFED ON CONSIDERABLE SECURITY ISSUES AND I'M JUST AS SURE SHE HAS HER OWN "RED PHONE" TO BE CLOSE TO WHAT IS GOING ON ...AND SHE KNOWS HOW TO KEEP HER MOUTH SHUT.. ........ SHE IS A WONDERFUL MOTHER -- THEY ARE A FAMILY-----AND AS FOR HER BEAUTIFUL 17 YR OLD DAUGHTER BEING PREGNANT...SHE IS IN LOVE AND WHEN GOOD GIRLS GET PREGNANT THEY HAVE BABIES - THEY DON'T GET AN ABORTION....HER FIANCE IS WORKING - THEY PLAN TO BE MARRIED AND HAVE SEVERAL MORE BABIES.....
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA THE ARAB KENYAN ISLAM MUSLIM , CERTAINLY DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF ALL HIS FAMILY ......HE IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN ILLIGITMATE CHILD BY VERA BLAKE IN FLORIDA......AND IN SPITE OF HIS BEING IN THE SENATE FOR 3 YRS HE'S ONLY WORKED AT IT 180 DAYS WHICH MEANS THAT JUST ABOUT ANYBODY BEATS HIM FOR BEING "PREPARED " TO BE PRESIDENT...
MANY YEARS AGO THERE WAS A VERY HANDSOME , YOUNG MAN THAT TOOK OVER CUBA --- CHANGE WAS HIS POLICY -- AND WE JUMPED AT THE CHANCE TO 'HELP'
THERE IS CHAVEZ -WHO BELIEVE " CHANGE" IS THE ONLY WAY - NOW THEY, TOO HAVE LOST ABOUT ALL CONTACT WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD...(EXCEPT FOR MOVIE STARS)
IN 2007 OBAMA WENT TO KENYA TO CAMPAIGN FOR HIS COUSIN , ODINGA. WHEN OBAMA CAME BACK HE ADOPTED ODINGA'S SLOGAN FOR "CHANGE'
ODINGA DIDN'T WIN SO HE HERDED PEOPLE INTO A CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND SET FIRE TO IT--BURNT IT TO THE GROUND... THE FIRST PERSON OBAMA CALLED AT THE RALLY WHEN HE ACCEPTED THE NOMINATION WAS - ODINGA, HIS COUSIN AND BEST FRIEND. ODINGA DID GET WHAT HE WANTED - THE MAN WHO WON STEPPED DOWN AND LET HIM HAVE IT........
ALL OBAMA TALKS ABOUT IS "CHANGE" BUT HE REALLY DOESN'T TELL YOU WHAT KIND OF CHANGES OH , SURE , I FORGOT HE'S GOING TO SPREAD THE WEALTH AROUND.
Is also notable that Sarah Palin thinks the VP is in charge of the Senate:
A "threat to our political system"
LOOK IT UP THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE .. ..THESE VPS....I'D RATHER SEE HER AS PRES. ANY DAY THAN THE VILLAGE IDIOT , PELOSI
ANYBODY CAN TWIST THE MEANINGS OF ANYTHING ....AND METHINKS THOU DOTH PROTEST TOO MUCH......YOU'RE LOOKING FOR REASONS TO DISLIKE HER ......"GET OFF IT!!!!"
OR FIND SOMETHING WORTH WHILE TO GRIPE ABOUT!
In your world everything you said is true.
