'Bush adm should release strategic petroleum reserve'

WASHINGTON: Accusing the Bush administration of playing into the hands of big oil companies, a Democratic law maker has demanded that it release supplies from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve that is now close to 700 million gallons, saying the country cannot go "begging" for long. (cont.)

Speaker Nancy Pelosi:

"The biggest drop in [oil prices] came 17 years ago, when President George H.W. Bush released oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in 1991 and the price per barrel dropped 34 percent in one day."
