Do you support the .5% sales tax increase to support TARTA?

I see that of 32 votes, 26 said "no". Yet I bet you that if the vote was held today, the measure would pass 2-1. How many of you 26 nay-ers even vote? I assure you that the 6 yes-ers DO vote.

and I do vote.

I've damn near every election thats come up since I registered way back in the dark ages of the 1980's. I think the only ones I've missed have been primary types where no local issues were on the ballot since I'm not registered with either party.

I think that a majority of Swampbubblers tend to have a conservative slant to their beliefs and therefore most polls favor a conservative or libertarian result. Also, most of the liberal acquaintances I know are not even familiar about sites like Swampbubbles and even if they are they refuse to accept the common sense reasoning some of the arguments dictate. In short...a lot ( not all ) of liberal thinkers are void of factual evidence and vote like lemmings being led off the cliff by the likes of the local rag and politician who only hold office because of name recognition or support of the local rag who control the lemmings. Therefore issues like this .5% tax are likely to succeed because the uninformed voter out number the informed voter.

"I think that a majority of Swampbubblers tend to have a conservative slant to their beliefs and therefore most polls favor a conservative or libertarian result. "

However, I do vote and will vote for this. I believe a strong community must support the services within the community to continue the growth and development.

I believe a strong community must support the services within the community

If you believe that, fine...as long as you speak for YOUR COMMUNITY. You should not however be allowed to speak for or spend another communities monies on services which do not benefit them.

Money is already too tight all the way around. I can't afford anymore in taxes and I'm sure I'm not the only one on this board who thinks that way.

I'd support DOUBLE or TRIPLE that amount if we had a public transportation system that was useful and had routes to most of the places I wanted to go, like the kind of system you can find in cities like D.C., New York, or Boston.

Unfortunately, TARTA is highly inconvenient, has routes that end early, and often requires me to go out of my way to use it. I remember wanting to use TARTA once when my car was in the shop to get from West Toledo to Arrowhead Park on business. Sad to say, it would have taken me 90 minutes each way, and I still would have had to walk about two miles in the rain if I used the bus.

It was easier to just reschedule my appointment than to use the bus.

Here are the FACTS that prove you are so screwed.

Population of Lucas County according to the 2006 Census estimates"
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/39/39095.html
445,281

Population of Toledo according to the 2006 Census estimates:
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/39/3977000.html
308,973

Population of Lucas County NOT living IN Toledo derived using simple math:
136308

Therefore, Toledo outnumbers ALL the rest of Sylvania, Perrysburg, Oregon, Maumee etc. BY ALMOST 3 TO 1

So, if Toledo wants a Tarta Tax, if Toledo wants a hotel tax to pay for a new arena, if Toledo wants to annex Ottawa Hills in order to pilfer more taxes, THEN THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.
And don't look to your County Comissioners to save you. They are obviously in Carty's pocket otherwise the County Comissioners would NOT have given control of the county water system to the mayor of Toledo.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

I must admit that I get the biggest kick out of your constant "you people in Lucas County suck...everything is so much better where I am" schtick.

Yeah...because Bedford Twp is doing radically better than Lucas County is right now. The region's woes (not to mention Michigan's woes) haven't affected Bedford Twp one lick...yep, its an oasis in the desert. Everyone there has great employment prospects and doesn't overpay for anything in taxes. Yep, you've got it all figured out. lol

From what I remember, 13,000 people LEFT Lucas County since 2000 and according to the Toledo Blab, 34% of those people stayed in the area.
"According to the numbers, between 2000 and 2006, 34 percent of Lucas County’s loss went to the surrounding counties of Wood, Henry, Ottawa, and Fulton in Ohio and Monroe and Lenawee counties in Michigan, while just more than 9 percent migrated to other parts of Ohio."

There are now 4, count'em 4, NEW subdivisions of houses being built in Bedford Township. How many houses being built in Lucas County?

You are right. I do have to pay $4.00 a week for trash pick-up. but THERE IS NO CITY INCOME TAX HERE. And there IS NO 3/4% PAYROLL TAX. And if I want to, I CAN STILL BURN MY LEAVES.

You are right. When I lived in Toledo, (Miracle Mile area near Jackman and Laskey) I repeatedly had to have suspension work done on my cars because of the crappy roads. But up here it is sometimes inconvinent to drive around the paving machines that are putting in new roads around Sterns, Secor, etc.

Yep, life up here sure does suck. I hate that I ONLY SAVE ABOUT 1/3 OF WHAT I PAID IN OHIO ON CAR INSURANCE. I thought the savings on my car insurance would be MUCH higher.

There was a house just down the street from me that went up for sale LAST WEEK, but it is sold already. Looks like my property value went up AGAIN *sigh*. So many EX-Toledoans moving into the neighborhood to SEND THEIR KIDS TO BETTER SCHOOLS.

No doubt, life up here OUTSIDE OF TOLEDO sure does suck.

So how about another COSI levi for you socialists in Lucas County? Apparently saying NO only twice isn't enough. Get ready to fork over more money out of your paychecks to support TARTA.

I envy you in Lucas County. It must be nice knowing YOU are supporting every hair-brained idea that comes up.

How is the "OFFICIAL" Lucas County Poet Laureate working out for you? Have you purchased "art" using one of those handy loans? Aren't you happy that Lucas County is a "Gay Friendly" community? THOSE things sure must have you folks swimming in jobs.

Don't blame me,
I didn't vote for a
socialist.

I am so jealous. Can you really burn your leaves like when we were kids? Even in the east side suburbs we have to have a package of hotdogs ready to throw over the fire.

I moved my business from Perrysburg City to Perrysburg Township. No City Taxes. Moved from Genoa to Curtice/Allen Township. Genoa=City Taxes. Curtice=No City Taxes. This all happened over 6 yrs ago. It's clear taxation has consequences. It affects behavior. Libs has a dead on take.

Why don't you discuss Curtice politics on your radio station? How come you don't discuss Perrysburg Township politics? You can discuss how great it is to lack a real urban core in your suburban sprawl cities like Perrysburg.

But, to the original post, there is no way way I would vote for this for the exact same reason stated by historymike, its' inconvenient. I love what they've done with the ART on TARTA, it makes it a little more enticing to ride the bus for some reason, but their routes are terribly inconvenient. If there is one thing wrong with Toledo, it is the lack of a real solid transportation system.
