TPS Special Board Meeting Report

The Toledo Public School’s special board meeting was an exercise in political posturing. President Steel laid the groundwork for the selecting of the next board member who will take the place of Robert Torres. It was a political love-fest.

Mr. Torres’ effective date of resignation is February 25, 2008 and basically they (the board, the mayor, the democratic party, etc.) will handle the business of selecting a new board member as they did the last one, when Deborah Barnett resigned and Mr. Ford was selected. Namely, citizens will apply and then the four members will select who they have already decided to select.

It will be held in the open but the same process will apply. You will have open discussion, interviews and application and then whoever was anointed by the Toledo Powers That Be, will prevail. Politics as usual. Unless the culture of apathy disappears from the face of Toledo and the incestuous, political relationships are no longer a part of that culture, TPS will continue on it’s path of self-destruction.

During the love-fest, which was not extended to Darlene Fisher, Mr. Torres threw Ms. Fisher under the bus by publicly telling her to “step back.” If she does step back and stop asking the hard questions, the children will be under the bus with her.

When will the children be a “special interest?”

No votes yet

Especially when he told me during the campaign of 2005 that he wanted to be the next mayor of Toledo.

Some School Board member he turned out to be...

'Stepping Stone' Torres...

the Blade be announcing who the next board member will be?

(blinks innocently......)

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

this is appalling.... how the hell can people back the other board members, excluding darlene, and actually think they will put the children first. i'd love to hear darlene's take on this.

i'm so voting no, until they get their act together, which might never happen at the rate they are going.

chris, are you putting an application in? hell could freeze over, and they might pick you. yeah, it's a long shot, but i hope you try. :) i know you would put the kids first, it seems to be a strange concept for most of the board members.

as angry about the school situation as they have gotten angry about the Marine incident. When can we march about TPS and the destruction of children?

I thought they were going to march on Nov. 6th. And I guess they did - to cast a vote for status quo.

But you are right, we should feel this passion for the kids ......
