New Blog- A Tax Break for Toledo , Reasons Against and a Solution for the 3/4% Income Tax

Tagged:

This blog is by Tom Morrissey , of the failed recall Carty campaign .
I think he brings a valid point about this tax.

The complaint from Toledo’s elected officials that will soon become deafening is, “Our City cannot run with a cut of 57 million dollars from the budget.” This is the amount of money that will be cut when Toledoans vote NO in March AND November.

The question to them is, then why not bring us a lower tax? Why not drop the 3/4% to 1/4% or something similar and make cuts accordingly? Do Toledoans DESERVE a tax break? We are hardworking citizens that certainly deserve a tax cut.

The same song is played out every year, why change what works.

I didn't realize that comments were closed. I hadn't changed any settings and people still did leave comments. I think everything is all better now. So fire away NC.

Nothing to add. Just was clicking around the blog you put together.

The chorus of voices is distinct about the 3/4%.

Now is anyone listening.

So the mayor is an idiot and council, not too far behind, but if you think police and fire won't be laid off, you are an idiot just the same. Each station makes an average of 15-20 runs per day to keep the people in our city safe. What is your plan, then, when your house is burning, or one of your parents is having a heart attack? Who would you like to come and help them? What if your house is being robbed? Who is going to come? TPD and TFD are completely understaffed as it is. Find a different way to fix our city than putting it's safety at risk. Campaign to have the city only use the 3/4% for the services in which they were originally intended. Then I will take you seriously. Until that time, you are ruining the city just as badly as the mayor.

Priorities are Police fire and trash. Anything that is not a top priority should be cut. It's nice to have certain city services, but why should we continue to fund government services that are basically in place to buy votes?

Private ambulance should have never been taken over by the City. However, they still make runs.

How about a campaign that calls for fiscal responsibility while we vote NO in March and November.

You must not have visited my blog, huh?

any money out of our police and fire dept's hands is a bad move for toledo residents

This is the same old scare tatctic the city uses everytime they need more of your money. Police, Fire and Sanitation should all be funded to their fullest extent under the current revenue generating machine. After these services are fully satisfied, everything else (and I mean EVERYTHING) is a luxery which needs to be scaled back if needed. Flowers in the medium of the Trail...Don't need 'em, Welcome signs with the Mayors name at the gateways...don't need 'em, Parks where the gangs can hang out because a lack of Police to control them...don't need 'em, painted fire hydrants and street lamp poles, don't need 'em.

You should get my point. While all the fluff is nice if it means cutting back on other essentials or raising our taxes in these hardship times we "DON'T NEED 'EM". Once the city is financially sound again because they have become prudent in their spending, have shown fiscal responsibility with the current tax revenues, then the luxeries can be re-evaluated and implemented slowly if needed. Untill then, let's finance just those essentials we need and learn to live on a leaner budget.

It is not wise for the city to budget money they do not have or have not collected. Carty claimed that the marines would scare the citizens but does not realize that he scares them even more with his strong-arm tatics and spread of fearmongering by declaring that Fire and Police services will be reduced if more taxes are not collected (especially directed towards our senior citizens whose yes vote on the tax levy will not affect their SS checks at all, so the only people payng the price for their YES vote are the ones who actually draw a paycheck).

I sound more and more like a Republican everday. My father is probably turning in his grave to find out! LOL.

The city of Toledo should vote no for both the city and TPS levies. Make them come back with something less and force them to trim some fat. Or approve everything, vote the same people in, and come to grips that people will continue to leave while others will stay away.
Actually it don't matter, Toledo is being called the "armpit of Ohio or the Midwest's Berkely" on national blogs / news media with Carty's latest. The rest of the country thinks Toledo sucks for not supporting our troops and how Toledo handled themselves after the marines arrived.
