Toledo's CitiFest officially dissolved

Kind of sad, but hey, when my household is facing a financial crunch, first thing to go is the social stuff. Same should apply to the city. This is a good call.

TOLEDO -- It's officially the end of an era for event planning in Toledo as CitiFest closes up shop for good. With it goes downtown events such as Rally by the River, The 4th of July festival, Ribs by the River and the Holiday Parade. News 11's Rob Wiercinski's reported from downtown Toledo's Promenade Park -- home to many of the events CitiFest managed over the last few decades. The CitiFest board voted to dissolve the organization Wednesday due to financial difficulties. They received no funding from the City of Toledo's budget this year. A big change from the $50,000 they received last year. However, most involved feel downtown events need to go on. City Council president Mark Sobczak said discussions are already in the works for holding events in the downtown area. He told News 11, "We need to make sure we have activities that CitiFest did for us." Tom Crothers, Executive Director of Downtown Toledo Improvement District, Inc., said, There are a number of for-profit and not-for-profits reviewing this situation. To everyone, it's critical that we have events in our downtown."

I wont miss Ribs by the River tho - wouldnt have gone to that if you paid me, and I couldda walked there from where I work. That was just Carty's little ego trip because the Riboff moved to where there was parking...

It's bullshit ego crap like that that put us in this mess anyway...

want to do what CitiFest did, seeing it was them that drove CitiFest into the ground?

I cannot fathom why an entity that was doing a fine job on it's own before Carty dumped ESM into their laps would have to be sacrificed.

What could the city possibly do, with it's infinite ignorance of anything else going on in the community, that CitiFest has already done and people in place?

Granted CitiFest dosen't need tax money with the crisis, but nonetheless, to even close this entity down then in the next breath say you're going to do what they've done is stupid.

Welcome to CartyFest!

Don't know what Toledo's report card is, but....

1) O-I moved corporate HQ out of Toledo and posts profits,

2) Fed-Ex wants out of Toledo

3) COSI shuts down

4) Citifest shuts down

5) Toledo highest unemployment in state

6) Toledo way up on foreclosures

7) Increase in Garbage Tax

I wouldn't have walked across the street for that shit. Why do I have this nagging feeling that someone, somewhere, somehow, will try to save this stuff?

"They keep talking about drafting a constitution for Iraq. Why don't we give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, and we're not using it any more".

'I used to have compassion, but they taxed it and legislated it out of existence.'
