Another Livable City Overpromise?

On Thursday night, prior to the conference's annual giant cocktail party, Mr. Rohr lashed back in comments to his public relations subsidiary, The Toledo, Ohio, Block Bugler. It was a sad exercise in rationalization that defies the economic evidence and perverts what an organization such as the Allegheny Conference should be.

It began with the headline: "Rohr: Region can be happy with what it has." Then he criticized those who don't shake his pom-poms and have the temerity to talk about the region's serious economic problems. Rohr then actually downplayed the attractiveness of robust growth. His big finish -- touting a bogus "most livable city" ranking and another shot at those pesky naysayers.
