What's in a name?

Around town I've seen signs (albeit hastily stuck in the right-of-way) for school board candidate Ted Jobe.

Consciously or subconsciously, how do you think his last name will affect voters with all the coverage of Robert Jobe (regardless if they are actually related or not)?

No votes yet

I don't think it will matter...there are lots of people who have the same last names and I think voters realize that...

I also thought

Hmmm...I wonder if he's related.

it will affect some voters. Albeit, not many...there are always those uneducated voters who cast votes for people based on irrelevant reasons like good looks, positive or negative name recognition, if they seem nice, etc.

I thought about that also when I first met Mr. Jobe. It may not be an unusual name but I had never seen it before.

Also I tend to doubt if there is any familial relationship, although I could be wrong.

Ted Jobe is not related to Robert Jobe.

If you meet Ted and see the pictures of Robert Jobe, you'll understand there is not a chance that these two are related. I will have to tell him about this thread, he will have a laugh.

You'll have to forgive me but I've been out of the loop with life in general. Who is Ted Jobe? I can't find a website on the guy or what he stands. From an article posted in the Toledo Blade back on August 25 I found his description as:

Ted Jobe, who retired in 2005 after 36 years as a social studies and history teacher at South Toledo's Libbey High School.

So to Ted and his supporters, what does this guy stand for again? Other then the red apple thing and kids of course. Maybe a free blog and a couple of interviews on WSPD would help give your guy some exposure. That way people don't completely associate him with nut job cop killer.

These two Jobe's are not related. So shouldn't we be more concerned about the people who have the same names that are in fact related? For example, the name Skeldon. The name Skeldon is the epitome of the OBC and nepotism.

Nobody cares who your father, uncle, brother, cousin, in-law, was or is. It's difficult enough to keep track of our own family trees let alone yours. Your genealogy is irrelevent to the issue of what you will do if elected.

just because someone "thinks" they might be related; doesn't always mean they actually believe they are related.

I don't know if there is any distant relation out there - Jobe isn't a terribly unusual name, its likely to be pure coincidence.

I do recall from the news stories that Robert Jobe's father is deceased. That's pretty much the extent of what I recall about his family though.

The name Skeldon and nepotism. A truer statement was never spoken.

I think my original message was lost. Here it is again: what does this guy stand for? If we knew what this guy stood for it would be easier to tell these two individuals apart. Until then people WILL NOT differentiate them.

In my previous post I tried to do a little research on Ted. These are my assumption from his lack of information on this series of tubes:
- Ted obviously doesn't believe in the Internet because he never took the time to make a simple website. He just thinks its a passing fad like digital cameras and CD players.
- Ted is trying to be a dark horse candidate by cutting off all commutation except with...
- Ted only believes in campaigning with signs.

Ted, or anyone from his camp, do you have a response? Can you disprove? me, because I would love to be wrong on this. Do read anything on the internet? How can I can get a hold of you Ted? I want to hear from candiates. I want to do an interview, leave me a voice @ (419) 464-7952.
If I don't I must assume the worst.

Tekrat-

You will probably not get a response from Ted on this website. Oh, and I don't think Ted has a "camp" either. He's very much a political neophite, and really going through this election on his own (hence, the late sign appearance).

I'm pretty sure he doesn't know how to put together a website, and does it matter? I would say most voters in Toledo are not looking up local political information when they are online.

I do know there was an article in the Toledo Journal about him. So he has not totally avoided the media.

I do believe that he is going to the Toled Free Press(?) debate whenever that is. That might be the best chance to catch him and interview.

Oh and I think people can differentiate between Ted Jobe and Robert Jobe, since one is a 61 year-old black man who is not incarcerated and a 15 year-old white kid who is in jail currently. Don't sell the public short on that.

Don't ask me what he stands for, I don't know. I'm just his friend. Please don't attack him for not being an internet savy politician.

Tekrat:

I'll be sure Jobe contacts you.

I can say this much for his stance:

Politicians have had their way with schools for a long time. Look where it's left us. The kids don't need another politician to decide how their schools operate. They need someone who's been in the trenches. Ted Jobe is not a politician, and for that reason probably doesn't stand a chance. But I don't think the schools will get much better, either.

Oh, and I always think of the biblical Job.

Robert Jobe = the kid who shot the police officer.

Given how closely you follow local news/issues, I'm surprised that you didn't recognize his name. lol
