Carty decks Schwartz?

I heard on WSPD that Carty decked Brian Schwartz..is this true?

Do y'suppose?

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

If it's on WSPD then it has to be true...

They're only reporting it as a rumor, not during their actual news casts. Totally wouldn't surprise me if it were true though.

Hit or fired? Just curious.

Mr. Schwartz hasn't been around here to deny it, so I'm betting it's true. He keeps up with what is said here and would be quick to Carty's defense if it weren't true.

Hopefully there'll be something in The Blade tomorrow about it. With Carty potentially moving from styrofoam cups to fists this could turn into a very interesting soap opera.

No Confirmation, no denile = truth

If this is true, the problem is not a private matter between 2 men, it's a matter of a elected offical assaulting a hired employee..and that's criminal. This would also be a 3rd strike, so to speak, for the Mayor.

If true, it's unacceptable! It is on it's own merrit, cause to remove Carty at once, and send him to court for assault.

Why do you people buy into this shit? Rumor! It's not even worth speculating about.

It's just not ok to be hit. Not at home and not at work. I hope this is a big nothing.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

Still haven't seen any actual news on this yet. But then, WSPD really isn't in the business of news is it? They only try to interpret actual news. Isn't it nice to know Toledo has their own little version of Fox "News"?

I'm sure if this really happened the local news would be broadcasting followups every two minutes or so interuppting everything else on tv.

Truth: Carty has a long history, well documented I might add for this sort of behavior.
Fiction: Anything that hasn't been proven yet.
Truth: In this instance, this may be just a rumor.
Fiction: Carty's changed

The point here is not whom the 2 men involved are. The issue is did this actually happen and if so, what is to be done? The issues here is that no employee should be subject to abuse of this nature for any reason at any time. For a supervisor to strike an employee, especially if he's the mayor of a City, is both criminal on several fronts and deplorable on every level. The problem is that the alledged victim is a non -union employee, with absolutely no protection and to speak out about this would virtually end his carrer.

However, then there's the possibility that this alledged event has witnesess...a whole bunch of them in the same position as Mr. Schwartz.

At the very least! this is worthy of a formal investigation. Should the "Rumor" prove true, then not only is the mayor guilty of a series of criminal offenses, so to are the people present whom conspired to cover up the offense.

Funny how the entire staff seems to have "battered wife syndrome". But then again, considering the well known and often commented on history with Carty, his multiple out of court settelments and of course the 2/3rds we'll never know..it's not funny at all.

Isn't it nice to know Toledo has their own little version of Fox "News"?

If WSPD is Toledo's version of Fox, then what's the Blade? Our own local Pravda?

then what's the Blade? Our own local Pravda

That's a good question, one worthy of it's own thread. But I thought we were talking about a rumor which was apparently "reported" by a "news" station. I think the similarities of Fox and WSPD are becoming more and more clear. They both try to combine news with agenda driven material.

I'm sorry - I had always thought it was the regional Freedom Socialist....that's funny billy.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

In what context was WSPD "reporting" this "rumor"? As part of their actual "news" segment, or just Brian Wilsom making reference to it as part of his show?

It was never reported during a newscast. Brian reported it as a rumor.

That's a good question, one worthy of it's own thread.

But apparently not an answer.

...in the jaw, so the rumor goes...

So if I post that HeyHey was arrested for blowing truckers at Stoney Ridge and you don't come here and deny it within 8 hours, it's probably true?

Oh please....

Anytime that anyone punches someone in the face in Ohio - it's a felonious assault. Doesn't matter if you're married to them, doesn't matter if you're the Mayor.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

...if anyone was willing to go on the record about incident, to call the station...no one did...

Most news starts off as a rumor or as something that sounds odd.

Bob Woodward thought it was odd that a law firm came to the aid of some Cubans who broke into the Democratic Headquarters without them making a phone call. After years of investigation the word Watergate became a common word in journalism.

Did Wilson even attempt to give some insight as to where or by whom he heard this "rumor", how it was called to his attention, or anything else about it? Or does he simply throw this out on his show every day to generate added listeners and phone calls?
Why doesn't he make an on-air phone call to Brian Schwartz's office in an attempt to see if this is even true? If his call isn't taken he can at least say he tried. That act alone should be fuel for a couple dozen more shows...."the mayor's spokesperson won't even take my calls!!"...

I hope he had witnesses and sues the prick. This is a guy that claimed he'd become 'a new Carty' after his heart surgery (and Amy said so, too, before she disappeared), even though we all knew better. F*** him. He's one person that's got serious emotional problems-could use anger managenment classes.

Back when I was editor of our school's newspaper in college, we were taught that was the kind of thing we should have checked on before we went public with it.

True, but it's not reported until the rumor is verified as true by several sources. This is obviously not the case here.

"He's one person that's got serious emotional problems-could use anger managenment classes."

And you, my aged friend, are another.

However Chris, a NEWSpaper reports NEWS as fact (except for the opinion section). Talk shows, like Wilson's, can report and talk about anything they want- rumor, opinion, lies, mistruths, half-truths, what they're having for dinner, Katie Holmes' new haircut, Bigfoot, etc... Now, if they had reported it during their frequent NEWS updates before confirming it as fact, that'd be a different story.

Well I won't say yea or nay but it is possible it happened and they don't have enough sources to back it up.

Exactly. That's why I think it's important to distinguish between real news that you might hear reported by journalists, and what WSPD does. Unless people make that distinction, there's a real possibility that a station like WSPD could switch between commentary and journalism and mislead their listening audience. Fox is well known for this.
