Only 6 months into term Democrat indicted on corruption

Is there a new culture of corruption in Washington? Oh wait that is only said when Republicans are in power.

Strike 1:

Strike 2:
Congress approval rating at 35%

Strike 3:

No votes yet

Wow, we got ourselves a real political scientist here. Regarding strike 1, this investigation began long before the democrats took power. If I recall, they found the money right after Hurricane Katrina. So technically, this guy was corrupt during the last congress, thereby making him part of that culture of corruption, not a new one.

Regarding strike 2, congress's approval rating is rarely, if at all, above 40% no matter who is in power. Everybody says, "I hate congress, but I sure do like my congressperson," and that's why they all keep getting reelected. And you can find that quote in many actual political science books.

I'm sorry for being an ass, but it's all so cyclical. Everybody points fingers at everybody else, but we all know that power causes corruption. In my not so humble opinion, I'd say that 75% of people that seek power are inherently corrupt, no matter the party. It goes both ways. Sure there are some good politicians doing it for the right reasons, but you aren't going to find that with most of the people who have been there for a while.

as saying that the charges against this man are somehow false?

I guess it is not clear, in any way, what it is you are trying to say with regard to this 'case'.

Please state your opinion.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

Amen and well said.

Junta.....I had been deliberately avoiding reading your posts on all local blogs for some time. I went against that here...and had originally intended to compliment you, and state your post was one of the best you'd ever posted several MORE posts....explaining why you said what you each previous post....reminding me why I had been ignoring your posts in the first place. I know you're a lawyer, but MY GOD! You act like you've got a fear of a lawsuit for anything you open your mouth on, so whatever points you try to make become totally buried in legalese!!

Where did I put those damned advils?

Why should one more drop of our soldiers blood be spilled on foreign soil? Why fight/die for 'freedom' anymore when our citizens are pissing it away at the voting booth?

'I used to have compassion, but they taxed it and legislated it out of existence.'

1. Your inane assessment of these events is about what I've come to expect from you, Dark.
2. As others have pointed out, the Jefferson investigation has been ongoing. One indictment does not a "culture of corruption" make.
3. Anyone that wants to put the Congressional Approval numbers in perspectitve--instead of just listening to this uninformed opinion--should head to and see an average of all polls on congressional approval since the early 90s. It's right on the front page.

I should clarify my stance a bit more. My point is that this political spin needs to stop. Once the majority of voters are educated to the reality of the situation, our system will clean itself up. We could have a moderate, cooperative government. But this back and forth between Ds and Rs both blaming eachother when they both do the same thing is bad for us and them (same goes for the A and B team in Toledo). Instead of acting in the majority interest, they are acting in extreme interests. Instead of acting in our interests, they are acting in their own selfish interests. I must say, the above post is a perfect example of questionable political spin, and it certainly represents the ridiculousness of our government.

No, the charges aren't false. I don't know if he's guilty, but the charges are certainly warranted. You missed my point. Please re-read. My point was that both parties are equally guilty of corruption, because with power comes corruption. My point was that both parties play the blame game, when they both do the same thing. And my ultimate point was that this political spin nonsense needs to stop from both sides in order to make the government better.

Additionally Kate, the purpose of my post was to demonstrate that the original post is a perfect example of political spin that needs to stop. This investigation started during the last congress, and anyone with any historical perspective of congressional poll numbers knows that the congressional approval rate is always really low. People always like their congressperson, but not the congress as a whole. When those things aren't taken into account, as in the original post, the post is misleading and therefore spin.

Was first started in 2005.

"The public first learned of the case when the FBI recorded Jefferson accepting $100,000 from an informant in a sting operation in 2005."

And it took two years of investigation to bring the charges against him.

Right on darkside! That's why congress is such a mess because it is filled with windbag lawyers.

"All evil and unhappiness in this world comes from the I-concept."

"All evil and unhappiness in this world comes from the I-concept."

Sorry about that Darkseid. I'll try from now on to work on that.
