Chris, I admire and agree with your position on this.

Among your best qualities..tact and diplomacy! Tho I am disapointed to some degree, I respect your decision.

I am interested in learning your thoughts about this latest development. Will the board be better off with Jack Ford as a member? Is he interested in a permanent position on the Board come November? What concerns or issues would you care to share as the Board undertakes plans to replace Deborah Barnett.

I totally agree with a "fill in" appointment until November. Let the voters decide in November whom they want in that chair going forward. The School Boad needs a realativly quiet summer. Ford isn't a bad choice for the short term. But it's time for new, younger blood and it's time to politicly ballance the board so that politics can take a back burner to progress. When it comes to the school board, students and education must outweigh the political drives of individuals.

...should make a promise only to serve for the balance of the term, IMHO. And the board should make that a condition of appointment - by publicly having whomever the replacement is make an announcement of such as a condition of appointment.

Hats off to TPS if they can pull that off! But I think it will go a long way toward repairing their tattered image.

Who better to preside over a failing school system then a mayor who failed at governing.

Toledo's students welcome to a life of ignorance and insignificance.

Is there any significance to the identification of republicans in The Blade story? It is listed for Nick Wichowski, Chris Myers, and it mentions Carolyn Eyre lost to a democrat. I found it interesting they mentioned party affiliation of the two democratic endorsed candidates, but left it off for everyone else.

If Ford'd make such a good candidate, why isnt he Mayor? Folks, during the last election you made a choice. If he was decidedly chosen NOT to be given the mayoral position, and keys to our $200 million tax purse, why would we put him into the school board with keys to a $400 million pocket book?

Do we really need brick school crosswalks?

What track record does he have? What results has he gotten? What is better after he worked with it?

During his administration, our city was like a car whose engine wasnt working and the door lock was busted. His 'elegant city' answer was akin to taking this busted up car and putting it up on rims.

He'd do the same for TPS - no improvement, but he'd get that money spent tho.

And I well remember a comment Ford made in the Blade about how he wanted Toledo to be an elegant city, but was dismayed at how blue collar it was - implying of course that blue collar people were not interested in the arts, music, theater, etc. Somebody posted on Toledotalks a while back (who lives elsewhere now) that the problem they see with Toledo is that when it comes to city govt. they keep recycling the same people/names over & over - no new blood. I agree.

This link takes you to a poll done only two weeks after the

that the appointment will only be for the duration of the term for the seat that's being filled - or did I read this wrong?

Deborah Barnetts' term is up at the end of this year. Why ask for a concession for a given?

And if they'd like to stay for a longer period of time - what is to stop them from running for the seat?

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

Ford was just too mellow and until the election popped up you didn't hear much out of him at all. I remember in the election he made such a huge deal about "care net" oddly enough even though I was begining my cancer journey about the time he supposedly started carenet, neither myself or others I worked with for my care knew a thing about it.
Hell a friend of mine who worked for the city never even heard of it until election time.

... politicians to do what they've always done and put a prospective candidate in, giving the the illusion of incumbency.

Politics as usual...

I HOPE that I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Why should one more drop of our soldiers blood be spilled on foreign soil? Why fight/die for 'freedom' anymore when our citizens are pissing it away at the voting booth?

On October 15, 2005 there was a race riot in Toledo, OH, and on November 8, 2005

pull the same stunt when he got voted out of office(or lost his bid for a higher one, whichever)?
