Blade takes quick action on photo editing allegations

Has anyone seen the photo editing allegations of a Blade photographer? It is good that they are taking quick action on this.

Bladevent has some good articles on this incident at http://www.bladevent.com/

I don't think we should make a big deal out of this. Allan Detrich screwed up and the paper is investigating. Stuff happens. People screw up sometimes.

Yes people do screw up sometimes, the correct thing to do is to admit it and fix the problem. Well done.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

Considering all he did was take out the lower legs of someone off to the side behind a banner I think losing your job is way to high a price to pay.

I think it sounds extreme too Kat, but what else could you do with this situation?

This isn't new policy - papers traditionally never edit or alter news photo's. This also was not a Blade photo. So while you would think that just disciplining somebody would be enough, I would think this person knew not to do it prior to doing it.

So if you have an employee who does do things they know not to and violates a basic tenet of reporting news...what else can you do with them?

Suspensions? Fines? There has to be something other then actually losing your job because you attached the wrong file to an email (or how ever he transmitted the picture).

I was under the impression that this was a first time thing with this guy, so yeah I think he didn't deserve to lose his job. If however I'm mistaken and this is a reoccurring theme with him, then yeah maybe the unemployment line is a good place for him to think about his attention to detail.
