Total insanity. At least that's the way I see it.

At least you have to give them credit for treating such substances consistently. The current arrangement legalizes drugs which are involved in far more harm than the illegal ones. Drunks get into fights and road accidents. Stoners say "it's all cool", eat some Twinkies, and then take a nap.

I'm not saying ANY drug should be illegal to take freely by a consenting adult. I'm just saying that a consistent approach makes more sense.

I've often wondered why alcohol is legal when marijuana is illegal.

Alcohol does much more damage to society than marijuana could ever dream of doing. Marijuana doesn't cause violence, it doesn't cause impairment of judgement on the same level as alcohol, its effects are much shorter lived, and it doesn't create a physical dependence.

But if I had to choose whether the driver of the oncoming car had been drinking or smoking a doobie - I'd definitely choose the doobie.

I've wondered the same thing heyhey. I guess it was a social taboo.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

My guess is that pot got the bad rap it did because of the propaganda movie "Reefer Madness" (rent it for a hoot, funny as hell) a long time ago (the 40's maybe?). It was supposed to convince people that using pot would make them resort to murder, rape, go insane. And like lemmings, people believed the propaganda (just like they are doing with second hand smoke). I said a long time ago on Toledo Talks that it's only a matter of time before they move beyond shs & start on alcohol, food ,etc. Bring on the booze ban - no more wine or martini's with dinner. All for the good of the 'children' - they'll find a way to say it's for the children. Actually - what they did with the wording of the smoking ban was to make it to protect the employees (after the children) - that was the best way to encompass every type of business. Never mind that many of these employees will (or are) be out of work over it, or that they smoked or live & hang with smokers. This will be known as the generation that destroyed America & every good thing it stood for. "Land of the Free"? Not anymore. I believe there's something in the Constitution that says something about the majority not deciding for the minority. But all you smoke nazi's keep on patting yourselves on the back because you won't have to smell shs - hell, you really believe that you own the right to destroy this country over your personal paranoias. The death of America as we know it will be by you.

Just a fyi - the propaganda that made people buy into "Reefer Madness", was similar to the propaganda that people bought into about daily enemas being a good thing & bowel movements being unhealthy (????) - strange, but true (I have old books that discuss it - Mr. Kellogg, the cereal magnate was behind it). People also believed that 'self abuse' (masterbation) would cause you to go insane, murder, rape, cause blindness, death & cause you to produce deformed idiot children. These same people thought nothing of taking opium or cocaine or smoking to calm the nerves & fix what ails ya - doctors recommended it. This type of hysteria is what was behind the witch trials as well. You tell a lie or bogus story long enough & people will begin to believe it. But if you confront the smoke nazi's with the proof that the tap water they drink has more arsinic & the air they breath has more toxic pollutants than shs or smoking, or the chemicals in building supplies, carpeting, new cars, etc. are more toxic - they won't believe it. They always retort - 'but we don't like how it smells'. And to them it's worth destroying this country to appease their paranoid whims. They are the most arrogant, self righteous jerks there are - to presume to tell a private business owner that 'we wanna eat or drink or bowl in your business, but we don't wanna smell smoke so stop it right now'. How F*%ing dare you.

William Randolph Hearst. A part of his fortune depended upon the wood industry, and hemp paper products threatened that. He used his now-legendary Yellow Journalism machine to bring hemp (as marijuana) into such a bad public image that by 1937 the Congress effectively outlawed marijuana with a tax act. Since then, America has been so anti-drug that it was easy to keep demonizing the plant. End result: In America it's illegal to produce even low-THC hemp, much less marijuana, thereby still protecting the US wood industry and as well, giving the law-and-order fuckos in America a ready population to assault (i.e. marijuana users).

Marijuana's been illegal for about 70 years because some capitalist scum wanted it that way. This is the sad background story of America that the public schools never want to teach us.

People interested in more facts about hemp in America should google:

"George Washington" hemp
"George HW Bush" parachute hemp
constitution "hemp paper"

You guys are a riot. I agree with Dark, and I agree about a psychological dependency. I've known too many partakers not to have picked up on the heavy correlation.

Starling - that is very interesting. You might have something there. I'm not going to say WHO it was but I had a relative who recently told me WHY he quit going to church. It was the self-abuse speech. I wish I had known, I would have wanted that party to explain to me if sex is so dirty, orgasms so awfully hateful - who do THEY think designed it all? Just stoopid. Probably ran more people off from the church than we can imagine.

Interesting stuff about Hearst. He was also famous for hosting 'booze cruises' during prohibition, huge booze parties on his yacht for his friends so they could drink unseen. Lots of debauchery went on I've heard. I don't have issues really with pot - pot smokers arent the ones starting bar fights or killing families of 5 driving (usually). But I have to agree that it sucks the creativity, ambition, out of you. Every daily pot user I have known (a lot) have been more slacker minded than not. I never liked pot - just made me hungry, tired & stupid. But you're so right how ironic it is that it's the boomers that have turned into such prissy asses & control freaks. I was also a hippie, 'flower-child' -lived with draft dodgers,free-lovers, drug dealers, other hippies & freedom fighters (and what fun it was!). I can't fathom how anybody who actually lived lives as peaceniks can be so transformed into such parnoid lemming types. At least I hung onto MY personal ethics. I see lots of these 'grown up' boomer types all the time, where they're so caught up in being soccer moms, & worrying about whether little Timmy will fall into the damned well, & God forbid eat fries cooked in trans fat, or have to enter a room that has a (GASP!!!) separate smoking section - I always think to myself, where'd your SOUL go to man??? They not only sold OUT to the establishment, they ARE the etablishment & want to BE the establishment. Where'd all the Abby Hoffman types go to? And I always wonder, do they ever, EVER, think back & miss a little bit of the lives they had & the beliefs they held so dear? But they all look, act & think like old people now.

but it does definitely cause a psychological dependence. I know because I was a hippie back in the stone age, and used drugs quite frequently, probably taking at least ten years off my life.

In World War 2 we fought (and defeated) the Axis. Today we're afraid of cellphones, smokers, and cheeseburgers. It's about at the end, people.

that the country is being destroyed primarily by the 'boomers'-who were former hippies-'free love', 'if it feels good, do it', 'never trust the man', 'question authority', etc;etc. And were the most rebellious generation in the history of the nation -are now the very neo-coms with wealth and power ( and WAY too much time on their hands)busy destroying it-and are far worse fascist dictators than their parents ever could have been. And most of their children turned out to be just as selfish, and just as bad-perhaps even worse.

Hells bells man, Cheech Marin just turned 61, and Tommy Chong is 68 and both are going strong!

Seriously, a year ago my local doctor told me that when you're young you can drink, smoke and do whatever the hell kind of drugs you want to. So long as you don't kill yourself, your body is making new cells faster than you are kiling them off and you'll be OK . . . . so long as you quit your worst habits by the time you hit middle age and you tired bod no longer rejuvinates itself. He made mention of my wrinkles and told me that they are caused by my body no longer making replacement skin cells as it once did. The same thing he said is happening on the inside to my liver and my lung tissue. He summed it up advising that it was time for me to quit smoking; so I did.

That makes sense to me.

Now I don't know what kind of drugs you did, but I think that may not have hurt you to the extent you believe. Take care.

Big Jim

Sorry, but since I speak from personal experience, I still maintain that smoking dope destroys your creativity, and alters your personality over a period of time. No, may not make you violent or any of that, but turns you into a constantly stoned slacker. I and everbody I hung around with, just wanted to constantly stay high. Actually, the demon weed was about the last drug I got into-acid being the first (!). Probably did just about every drug known to Man and God except heroin. Watched a 16-year old chick go through withdrawals one night, and stopped everything the next day. Never looked back.
