Fire Chief Bell informs city that he is retiring

I know this is old, but what do you think about Mike Bell retiring? I met the gentleman a couple of times and was impressed. What do you think? Do you agree with Carty, he should be considered for TPS superintendent?

In the Blade:
Toledo Fire Chief Michael Bell said yesterday that he will retire March 22

Mike Bell has a Bachelor's degree in Education from UT, he's familiar with large budgets, he's played an integral part in the support of children in this city, he's strong, he's honest - by all accounts I'm aware of, he's personable, approachable, and I have never heard anyone say that he didn't do something he said he would. Mike is also tactful, modest, has a sense of humor, is fully aware of all the political traps in our area, holds the respect of his department, knows how to talk to people, and is one of Toledo's own.

Get him on the ballot and I'm voting for him! Not one doubt there.

Lets see him on the ballot for Mayor next election.

If man has no tea in him, he is incapable of understanding truth. ~Japanese Proverb

both of those ideas interest me a bit. he lives in my neighborhood and seems to be widely respected. while i don't know his politics, he appears to have strong leadership qualities. he didn't reach and maintain his position with luck.

as a side note, my wife and i saw him outside of a nearby restaurant. we introduced ourselves and he was very nice and he started some small talk with us. seemed like a good guy.

I know a handful of people who know him, including a couple firefighters, and by all accounts he's a stand-up guy who is personable, smart and an effective administrator.

...Mike about running for Mayor about a year ago. He just smiled and said something like "You never know what life will throw at ya."

I have met and talked with Mike Bell on numerous occasions and having been exposed to MANY types of political personalities over the years, there is no doubt in my mind that he would be a true asset to have in public office.

We could all go picket in front of his house with signs that read "Mike, Please stay!" :)

One of the many things that I like about Mike Bell is that I DON'T know his political affiliation...he's been a "chief" - first and foremost...

While I'd love to see him in the Mayor's office, I think I'm leaning toward urging him to consider the school board. I think his influence there would have more long-term positive effects for our kids and our community.

ps - I'm up for the friendly picketing!

I just can't imagine why Bell would want to take over the headaches of TPS and the tomfoolery behavior of its board members.

Go to Washington Mr. Bell and never look back.

Oh yes - if he ran for Mayor I'd not only vote for him - I'd throw my ward behind him :-)

It's a rare incidence that you see a young man with this kind of drive and personal wherewithall. A great loss for the city of Toledo.

Gee, I wonder if Mayor Finkbeiner will run a big, loud campaign to retain him? You know, he did that for our Superintendant of schools. Do you guys remember? The one that quit and then three of the five board members gave him an 'exit' package of almost a quarter of a million dollars?

That's the same guy that took the public school administration personnel with him ----remember???

C'mon Carty!!! Keep Mike Bell. Keep Mile Bell....(is Carty grabbing his pom poms'? I'm scared to look)

Keep Mike Bell.....Keep Mike Bell....{looks behind her at the darkened stadium and starts to cry.....}

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

Has a rather nice ring to it!

Party affiliation?

Who cares, just look at his performance and track record, that says it all.

I predict that he would win in a landslide.

IMO, ABC ;-)
