3 on council facing party chief's wrath over president vote

In Today's Toledo Blade:

Three Democratic Toledo City Council members who are identified with the so-called A-wing of the party may not be endorsed for re-election if they don't mend fences with B-team members who currently run the party, the party chairman said yesterday.

The three councilmen expressed disbelief that Lucas County Democratic Chairman John Irish is threatening to withhold party support. Two of the councilmen remain under a sanction imposed in 2005 for not supporting the party's choice for a vacancy appointment on council.

I, apparently, moved to town post A/B team split. I don't know what happened and no one seems to be able to explain it. But it certainly has proven to be crippling the party.

Barring an explanation - I cannot fathom them turning on themselves and shredding the local party. I have been told that Toledo had been a Democratic stronghold in the past. As an uninformed newcomer - it looks to me as if they are their own worst enemy.

If you're here to tell me it's my fault - you're right. I meant to do it. It was alot of fun. That's why I have this happy smile on my face.

Different day, different year, different decade, same old story. This type of thing is not new in the Lucas County Democratic Party. Fractures, fissures, schisms, feuds, public-aired disagreements, power grabs, leadership wars, etc. have been part of the LCDP for generations.

I think that maybe Toledo would benefit if the Dem's were to split further.

Think of it, Independents, Republicans, and the A, B, C, D, E, F.... Democrats!

I mean, if Democrats can't learn to make nice and play together without squabbling, they don't deserve to rule in unity.

Hooda Thunkit

It's long past time to divide and conqure! Being independant, I think a multi party effort is in order to re-invent the wheel here. Too much of anything isn't good, and T-Town has had way more than it''s fill of 1 party rule..even if they don't recognize it. Laf! It's time to throw the OBC, the Utilities, the Unions etc to the curb and start all over. If anything is certain, it's that the way we do things now has failed to work for more than 15 years and if we wait much longer to re-direct ourselves, there will be nothing to re-direct.

This was mentioned on Conklin and Company but the Blade website wouldn't load so it wasn't clear what this was in relation too.

We don't remember days only moments...

I love it. Sooner or later the Democratic party in Toledo will implode. This is what happens when egos and people who grave for power clash. Then maybe the Republican party can get their act together and get this city on the move again.
